Clean, Cool & Close to the Bridge. This past weekend, I went on a one day shopping spree to Laredo. Always interested in viewing historic Texas locations, my friends and I ate lunch at Rocha’s El Catan Grill. This restaurant which is located in the Hamilton Hotel built in 1900 and at 12 stories tall, the tallest building in Laredo, is located on the ground floor and offers a spacious ambiance with marvelous windows, molding, and probably 22 foot ceilings. Without a doubt, the food matches the high quality of the environment. We each ordered a different item and shared – puffy tacos, fried shrimp, and chicken fried chicken. Everything was so tasty, we returned that same night for dinner and had fried catfish tacos, cheese enchiladas, and prime rib. The next morning we decided to go all the way and return to the restaurant for breakfast – panchos (puffy nachos with cheese, beans, guacamole, and jalapenos), migas, and an American plate of fried eggs, beans, potatoes, and more! We took before and after pictures of our plates – full and licked clean. We had a great time…excellent service and the owner, Ray Rocha, was the cook! (Don’t waste your time asking for his secret sauce recipe. He’s mum over it!) Go enjoy! Frances in Austin
