Amazing & Original!. I’m a sushi fanatic and I’m very familiar with Japanese fusion concepts from my time of residing in NYC. This one, by far, has been the best sushi fusion restaurant I’ve ever tried. Not only are the rolls amazing (Manny & Monster roll recommended) but the atmosphere as well as the design of the restaurant are top notch; the quality is exceptional. There are plenty of mixed reviews on this site, nonetheless if you ask any true Laredo resident about SM they will repeatedly tell you, it’s one of the top restaurants in Laredo; which is high praise for a city that is all about great food. Good Job Sushi Madre.
No Like!. Ate the food once; carry out. I am sure I won’t be back. The food was poor and they tried telling me it was authentic. Authentic what? it is a Japanese Mexican fusion that for me just does not work. I love Japanese food including sushi and sashimi. The majority of their dishes are deep fried, including the sushi. If I wanted fried rice I would order fried rice.
Great Sushi. I’ve only had sushi in a few places and they may not compare to the true sushi methods practiced in the high end restaurants but this one was great. I ordered the Cigarroa Roll along with the Shrimp and Cheese Empanadas. Both were awesome. The dipping sauce for the empanadas had so many layers of flavor. I will say, though, that the tampico isn’t as good as the one sold at Kotos. The lunch special competes with many of the other sushi places in town. Next time, I wanna try their dessert sushi roll.
