Good, but not great place with a beautiful atmosphere. I have had better quality beef and lamb in dallas, such as Stephen Pyles or Abacus. Our medium rare beef tenderloin and rack of lamb were both good tasting but well overcooked. The beef short rib accompanying the tenderloin was just terrible, very dry and overlooked.. On the plus side the service was the best I have had in Dallas
Like a Transportation in Time and Place. When you plan for dinner at Zagat’s favorite restaurant in Dallas, expectations are high, but when you walk in and feel yourself transported to the dining room of Versailles, your expectations suddenly feel silly. The interior of the Adolphus Hotel, en route to the The French Room, is a fall back to the late 1800’s and is tantamount to other luxury hotels of that era, most reminiscent to me of the French inspired, Windsor Court in New Orleans. But even the decadent decor of the hotel cant compare to the splendor of The French Room itself, with it’s domed ceilings, exquisite murals, gold trappings, and luxurious tapestries. The menu changes frequently, but should you be lucky enough to be offered the Squab, Striped Bass, or the Butter Cake, I can only envy you for it will be one of the best meals of your life. Meal options include a la cart, three-course pre fix for $80/person or a chef’s tasting menu for $110/person. Most meals average $90/person, making the cost of The French Room second only to Hotel St. Germaine and followed closely by The Mansion. By the time we left the restaurant, everyone from the valet, to the hostess and our large team of waiters and assistants knew our names. Their interactions with customers flawlessly fills the gap between the necessity for upscale professionalism and the need by patrons to feel comfortable and somewhat cozy, even in this dream-like, opulent castle.
One of the best restaurants I have ever visited. The restaurant itself was very ornate and romantic living up to its name. The service was amazing. We were treated like royalty without the snobby presumptuous attitude. Although we ordered three courses we were treated to six courses by the chef spanning the meal over two hours in true French style. The crab cakes were by far the best I have ever had, the veal was the most tender I have ever had, and the chocolate souffl was not as good as Roy’s but was still a perfect way to end a perfect meal. If The Adolphus was as perfect in the hotel business as The French Room is in the restaurant business this would be a one stop have to for any traveler.
Best. Meal. Ever.. Bar none, this is the best restaurant I have ever been to. Including Vegas or NYC or Quebec or anywhere. My husband and I went to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. The service was exceptional, the hotel and restaurant absolutely gorgeous, and the food – amazing! For appetizers, my husband had the Hudson Valley Foie Gras and he could not get over how wonderful it was. Perfect, buttery, melts-in-your-mouth. I had the Lemon Butter Poached Maine Lobster and it was also delicious. Entrees – he had Slow-Cooked Tenderloin of Veal and I had Nova Scotia Halibut. Again, both were fantastic. I would have to say that’s the best Halibut I have ever had – and I’ve eaten it on the East and West coast. What also made the meal was the Wine Sommelier Richard. He gave us pairings for both our appetizer and our meal and he was not only dead on, but the wine was the perfect compliment. In between the courses our waiter Carlos (wonderful man!) brought us the usual tiny bites to cleanse your palate. One was tiny bits of rabbit, mushroom, and a califlower puree. The other was a champagne and apple juice sorbet. Both were delicious. Then it was time for the dessert. My husband had the caramel pumpkin brule and I had the Saffron-Poached pears. I do wish I’d listened to Carlos and tried the Chocolate Souffle, as I couldn’t stop thinking about it. We had coffee with our dessert. From the moment we arrived until the second we left, we were treated like royalty. As others have mentioned, I was a bit worried about going to such a five-star restaurant, but my fears were put at ease the instant we parked at the complimentary valet. Every single person we dealt with remembered our name (amazing!) and when we returned to the valet, without even being handed the ticket, they remembered our vehicle!Very, very expensive, so be preparied. Beyond the three course fixed price of $80., coffee is $10. per person, and each glass of wine was $13. Still, I have to say it was worth it. Especially since a 25th anniversary only comes once!
Remarkable. This was the best meal I have had in a very long time, if not THE best in my life. From the second we walked in, we were treated phenomenally. Servers were extremely courteous and very knowledgable about the night’s menu. Many of them have been there for many years, and it shows. This place will bend over backwards to ensure your enjoyment. The food was flawless on all levels, appearance, temperature, seasoning, execution. Go here for a very special occasion, and you will be greatly satisfied.
Outstanding food and Impeccable Service. We celebrated a birthday here in late May. Very romantic setting. The was staff were amazing and made us feel at home. We had the Chef’s tasting. The attention to detail on each dish was top notch. The wine pairings were spot on. Would definitely recommend without a doubt!
Amazing Food. We celebrated our son’s 18th and our daughter’s 16th birthdays last night. The night began with a smile and handshake from the hotel valet and improved from there until the chef said thank you at the door. All four meals were simply perfect. Our waiter, Carlos, was polite, professional and provided interesting insight into the history of the Adolphus and the French Room. His timing throughout the evening was superb. We will return to enjoy another amazing experience.
