Sushi was gross. The bento boxes my mom and boyfriend ordered (one teriyaki steak, one chicken) had the cheapest meat and over battered tempura in them. The calamari was gross and very rubbery. I’m sure the grill side of the restaurant is good, but the sushi side sucked.
Was tired of the old subway to hold me through til my evening meetings are over and decided to try some sushi from Hikari. I’ve had some good sushi before and I wasn’t expecting much with this meal. However I was pleasantly surprised with the amount, the taste and the price of the California and Philadelphia rolls I had. The two Japanese men manning the place were very quiet but very nice. If you want some inexpensive but tasty fast food sushi, try Hikari!
Even though its a fast food inside a food court, it’s some of the best authentic Japanese food I’ve had. They serve both Chinese and Japanese food that’s prepared by two older gentlemen. The sushi and Japanese dish are prepared only by the owner who is Japanese. It’s delicious!
This place closed—Real Deal, best in El Paso i’ve had. It takes time to eat here so be prepared to wait. Menu changes daily. Still have not gone on the day they serve Tonkatsu….I hear really good things abou that. Tempura, Sushi, Seaweed salad, Miso all VERY GOOD.
Tom’s new digs. UPDATE: 4/12/2012I finally got a chance to stop in for a quick lunch while I was in the area around Bassett Place. Tom was wonderful and smiling as always, and the food did not disappoint. The prices are great! If you’re in the area and looking to grab something quick, do yourself a favor and stop on in. Get something that’s quick and tasty and a lot better option than a greasy burger and fries… Tom serves up tasty udon noodle soups, teriyaki bowls, and a variety of chinese-style entrees. He still offers some favorite sushi rolls and limited sashimi. They also have a traditional bento box lunch and some specialty Japanese items available that are prepared to order.2/14/2012I added this new restaurant to the spoon. I haven’t even gone by to see it yet, but I heard about it from the owner and I’m planning of stopping in soon. The owner is none other than former master chef, Tom Hio, formerly of the original Riyoma, then more recently of Makoto. I’m not planning on comparing Hikari to Makoto, after all this is in the food court inside a mall and is supposed to be fast food Japanese. Still, it never hurts to have some yummy and healthy fast food options. I’m expecting something along the lines of Mirai Bowl. I will update post as soon as I try it out.
