Few things satisfy like a tasty Italian dinner and when you live in a large metropolitan area like Houston, there are lots of Italian eateries including locally owned and operated options. One we have visited many times and liked is Hasta La Pasta in the suburb of Katy, TX.Hasta La Pasta gives you good vibes upon entering. The entrance looks nice and there is a small outdoor fountain and seating, plus a few outdoor games for entertainment. The interior is dimly lit and generally quiet, so you shouldnt have any trouble carrying on a conversation with others in your dining party. It has the ambiance of a fine Italian restaurant and it scores points in this area. Hasta La Pasta starts you off with bread and butter plus oil/spice dipping sauce that, while nothing to shout about, is still good overall. For dining, Hasta La Pasta features appetizers, signature dishes, grilled options, desserts, etc. When I first visited many years ago, I was surprised at the number of menu options that included seafood. This was very different from the Italian eateries in the northern United States, where I am originally from. Im not a fan of seafood, but there are enough non- seafood choices that I didnt mind.I have tried a few of the menu options at Hasta La Pasta over the years. I have found the signature dishes a little less appealing than the other menu items. My favorites include the Mediterranean chicken, Lasagna, Chicken Alfredo, and Chicken Pesto. These meals are well- prepared, tasty, and leave you feeling nice and full, with the possible exception of the Lasagna, which is on the smaller side. The red sauce they use here is good tasting and the food is, overall, well seasoned/spiced but not overly so. And my kids like the childrens menu options, especially the lasagna and pizza.Drinks at Hasta La Pasta are a little pricey and the craft beer selection could use some improvement. They do have a good size meeting space for private gatherings and I have been part of several such meetings here, with generally positive results both in terms of food and service. Add everything up and you have a good Italian eatery here in Katy- one that is easily better than the Italian chain restaurants. greatbeernow.com
