Disappointed. We went to Jay’s for lunch Sunday after church. We all ordered the special, turkey & dressing. Im sad to say, I’ve had better. The turkey was overcooked, dry & a bit tough. We had heard such good things about Jay’s and were sadly disappointed. The apple pie was good.
A Little Bit of Wonderfulness. The Jay Cafe is one of life’s little unexpected pleasures. Located on Hwy 36, a short distance from the Needville High School, the cafe unobtrusively sits about 100 yards off of the highway so road noise is not an issue. Inside the decor is clean but not pretentious, the service is friendly and folksy, and the menu features many old time favorites of Americana. Burgers, chicken fried steak or chicken, steaks, salads, fish, all are wonderful, and if you do not have some of the pie after your meal, then you have cheated yourself. Their chocolate meringue is to die for.I drive from Sugar Land to partake in the memories of childhood which the Jay Cafe evokes. With a basic menu, the quality and flavor of the food becomes paramount, and the Jay does not disappoint. Try it once; you will become a believer.
The Jay Cafe had the best burger i have ever tasted!!! Since moving to Utah i have longed for a chance to make it back to needville for the sole purpose of eating at the Jay Cafe. Their pies were delicious and layered perfection with bluebell ice cream, need i say more?
They advertise they open at 7am on Sunday, arrived right at 7am but they weren’t open. Waited in the parking lot until 7:15am still nothing, tried calling but no answer. No notice on door that they would not be open at regular time. By 7:20am still not open, so I left.
Burgers and blue jay margaritas !
Two thumbs up for the burgers and the jalapeo sourdough buns are delicious. Everything is made fresh, even the hamburger patties.
Was glad to find this place. Nice waiters and good chicken fried steak.
