I have had BBQ all over this country. This is amping the best.The best beef brisket ever. The smoke ring was thick. The flavor awesome. A must try.
Ate lunch here today -had brisket, rib, pork and sausage. The brisket was very good -tender, smokey and fairly moist. The rib was fairly meaty, tender and flavorful. The sausage was very good as was the pork. The slaw was good and beans very good -both fresh. The pot salad was celery seed and sour dill pickle flavored -very good and fresh. The dark sauce was a Worcestershire -perhaps lightly sweetened. The other was a light tomato sauce base w heavy garlic -no apparent added sugar. Both were OK. On a return visit I would go with the brisket plate. That’s the better value compared to a la carte. You can always come back for a bit more meat by the lb. I’m not sure if Frank is cranky (or the guy taking your order), but he’s not real friendly. I do recommend for at least a first visit.
Visited Cranky Franks when we were in Fredericksburg and it lived up to the billing. Very good BBQ and a must stop in town. The ribs were fall of the bone and the brisket very tender. Sausage also tasted very good. I myself like a smokey flavor style and while it had a smokey hint it was not as smokey as I prefer. There were two types of BBQ sauces and both were very tasted I preferred the more traditional Texas style BBQ sauce. Loved the all you can eat sides and the pudding.
You’re never going to get better bbq than this. Absolutely beats everyone in San Antonio and I’ve tasted a few out in Lockhart. Top notch and all the sides you could ever want. I love this place.

Horribly inefficient at serving people. Line out the door and it doesn’t move. It’s like no here has a clue what they are doing. Don’t waste your time waiting….
Probably the best ribs… …we’ve ever had. Marbled brisket and sausage link were pretty damn good too. As others have mentioned, there’s nothing exceptional about the sides, which doesn’t surprise me considering it’s an all you can eat. As an FYI, the prices on the linked website are a buck or two lower than the currently posted ones. Would also advise anyone coming on Sunday to get there before Church gets out, there was a line forming by 12:15.
