This place was recommended to us by the guy that did our tasting at rancho ponte. If I see him again I will have to thank him! The crispy snails were unique and delicious as were the shrimp and scallops. You should definitely save room for dessert!
Yes… YES! So much to love about Nest. Where to start. The location is a little cottage right off of Washington Street. You will blow by it and not even realize there is bunch of great food, just waiting for your attention. Slow down and turn into the parking lot. I would also make sure you have a reservation, since I would imagine these guys stay very, very busy. We arrived a tad early for our reso, however they were ready for us at 6.30pm on a friday. Our table was in the immediate room on your right as you enter the house. There was another table already seated and after a little while the room was completely seated. This added to the ambiance, since couples were talking with each other from the table to table. Lot’s of yummie’s and ohhs and ahhs as they made their way through the meal. I mean, how you can you not love a restaurant that has half a stick of real butter waiting for you before you are even seated?Monica was our server and she was great. She was very informative about the menu and answered all our questions with patience and knowledge. She has a playful side and read Suzie and I very well. We started with the Snails, which apparently is a very popular dish here. For the Entrees I already knew I was going for the rack of lamb and Suzie jumped into the Red Fish. We needed clarification from Monica regarding the special, since Suzie has a shellfish allergy. She let us know that the Chef can prepare this without the crab and as such, Suzie went for it.The snails presentation was truly a work of art. Almost reminded me of a comet which crunchy savory bits to nibble on. This is not the way I have ever eaten snails and as such it was a different experience. Not a bad one at all, but when you have eaten snails the traditional way, wine wine/butter/garlic braised, then this will appear to be a little bit more chewy. I actually had that discussion with Monica because I believe she picked up that I wasn’t woofing the appetizer down with massive gusto. Albeit, we ate the entire thing.. including all the crunchy red tortilla strips. A point of note, everyone in our dining room area, ordered the snails. A definite re-order when we get back here to dine again. And then the lamb appeared. The lamb… silenced me. For an English boy, lamb seems always to be hit or miss. Getting the temperature right for most American restaurants seem’s a challenge. Apparently not for Chef John Wilkinson. (By the way, he was the happy chappy that called me to confirm my reso’s..noice) The lamb was an entire 8 rib rack and was like butter coming off the bone and melting nicely in my gob. Each rack was a meat lollipop and I ate them one by one with my hands. Sorry neighbors, that’s the way to do it. Turnip mashers. Yes, that is what accompanied the rack and it took me back to England, when I used to eat turnip’s often. It reminded me to buy more of these roasted beauties.Red Fish for Suzie was prepared with care and spice. I could relate why the Chef wanted to put Crab on the entree, but it didn’t take away from the overall presentation and flavor. The portion was on point and even let her take some with her for a late night munch out. The fresh veggie and rice which surrounded the fishky was a great compliment and well prepared. So often, the sides don’t get the care that the main gets. Not here, everything is prepared with care. At this point we were again hitting critical mass, since I basically was using the rib rack as a toothpick making sure I didn’t miss any little lamb bit. We really like this place. They have a full bar, so next time we will enjoy a cocktail and work through the menu again. The combination of excellent, polite service, the wonderful dining space with great light from the large windows and the precise technique in preparing lamb and fish makes this one of the better meals we have had in a long time.
Great food! We went here based on the recommendation of a local. The food is one of a kind. We had the filet and pan seared scallops. Both dishes were cooked to perfection and had great flavor. Make sure to get a reservation if you to plan to eat at The Nest. The restraunt is a small older home that has been turned into a restraunt. The home has great character/ambiance but the space is small and this makes it tough to accommodate a high number of customers during peak times.
