I came here with my husband for lunch. We LOVED it. It may not be the newest and fanciest restaurant in town, but if you are wanting authentic Mexican street tacos, then this is the place to go. Mmmm, so good!
Best Tex-Mex in Fbg. As a native San Antonian, I know what great Tex-Mex food is. This is not on that par, but not bad at all – esp. for the price. I have lived in Fbg. for 30 years. I have eaten at Mamacita’s often. I MUCH prefer Altos.
Migas!. It’s not gourmet food, but it doesn’t claim to be. Tex-Mex done well. Excellent beans and rice is always fluffy and nicely seasoned. Good waitstaff and great for people watching — everything from 3-4 generations of family at one table, to tourists, to work crews taking a break.I am very fond of migas and Jalisco’s are my favorite in Fredericksburg. Lots of fresh jalapeno for a little bite and thick sliced bacon cooked super-crisp. Accompanied by non-greasy fried potato chunks and the house beans. Nice way to start the day.
The food is mediocre and the service can vary widely from decent to horrible. The prices are really low.
Best Mexican food in Fredericksburg. The caldo de mariscos is delicious. The staff are incredibly friendly!!
Great authentic Mexican food. If you are looking for Tex-Mex, that often unholy watering down of Mexican food to make it look and taste more like everything else Westerners eat, steer clear of this restaurant and head to Mamacita’s. I do eat at Mamacita’s as well–it would be difficult not to after living in Fredericksburg and the hill country for 25 years–but it is unequivocally *not* Mexican food.Altos de Jalisco serves authentic homestyle Mexican food, comfort food for Mexican visitors and residents alike. My wife is Mexican descent from El Paso and fell in love with this restaurant when we first ate there. I haven’t had a dish from this place that I didn’t like. Most importantly their staples are perfectly prepared: great rice, excellent salsa, and refried beans exactly the way they should taste. If you don’t know the difference between Tex-Mex and actual Mexican food you’ve never had it–you are missing out.
I suppose the food is good for what you paid for.
