The food and service is garbage! Have been several times and quality/taste inconsistent!
I love Ellie’s! The food is delicious, and the service is wonderful! Ellie or her son always comes by the tables to say hello. My favorite dis is the gyro, but the lamb stew is delicious, too. Ellie makes her dumplings for chicken and dumplings from scratch and fresh, which makes the dish extra yummy. The desserts are wonderful, too! I love baklava and the banana pie.
My wife and I have dined at Ellie’s at least 15 times over the last few years. The food is very authentic and always very fresh. I never have a processed food taste left in my mouth like some restraunts. Don’t forget to save room for the germain chocolate cake, there is plenty for 2 people.
AWFUL!. We picked this place for a girls’ night dinner and left sorely disappointed, and hungry. Why hungry? Because, at the least, thirty minutes after we ordered our drinks (sodas, teas and waters), we still hadn’t received them. Nor had we even been given a chance to place our orders for dinner. Or appetizers. We had heard that the food was amazing but that the service was subpar. There comes a point where even the best food isn’t worth that lame of service.
Ellie’s is perfect!. I sincerely disagree with the comment about the staff being rude. Ellie is a precious chef and makes delicious and authentic food. She is from Greece herself and after getting to know her from dining, I’ve learned she has a lot of heritage in her restaurant and many stories to share. Her son is extremely intelligent and knows what he is doing with the restaurant. Now for the food, the shish kebob pita is my favorite! Amazing flavors. Also try the beef stroganoff! And make room for dessert because the wedding cookies and everything else is so delicious! Often times the culture of other countries is different from our own, and if we understand that people communicate differently, we can have a more open mind and enjoy new things! Try Ellie’s and enjoy the mural!! 🙂
Excellent Greek Food!. Born in Cyprus, Ellie, owner of Ellie’s Kitchen & Catering, provides one of the best dining experiences in SE Houston. The food, all prepared with love, provides the quintessential Greek experience. After visiting Greece several years ago with a Greek friend, my friend suggested that I visit Ellie’s, home of some of the best Greek food in Houston. Our family has fallen in love with this restaurant and its staff. The staff is down-home friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. The business has grown so much that Ellie has expanded to the building next door. An artist has decorated the entire restaurant with murals depicting Ellie’s home in Greece. From the school bus she used to ride in to school each day, to a mural of her grandmother’s bedroom, the artwork allows the guest to catch a peak of Ellie’s Greek childhood. Ellie and her son, Rob visit with the customers often and provide a friendly hello when not too busy. The food is delicious. The menu is limited when compared to a large operation such as Ya Ya Mary’s, but, it is considerably better than Ya Ya Mary’s! The appetizers are delicious and the desserts yummy. Her banana butterscotch pie is heavenly! She has a delicious Shrimp and Artichoke soup. The Gyros are excellent as the meat is tender and succulent.Ellie also offers catering and has an extended menu from which to choose. I’ve had several large groups and parties eat at Ellie’s and all of my friends become loyal customers!
