My husband and I enjoy hanging out at the bar. They have wonderful happy hour specials and a delicious bar menu. My husband loves their wings. They have the perfect combination of sweet and spice. We have eaten in the dining area a couple of times and it was wonderful, but we enjoy socializing with others, so we usually visit the bar once a week. The bartender and other staff members are very friendly! Give it a try! You will love it!
Poor service and an owner in denial. I am a local physician and my father (a former restaurant owner) has asked to go to Randy’s every time he visits Texas. Last night we finally went! We were a party of 5 and had a 6:30 reservation. Given all the rave reviews and the website description of ‘fine dining’ we had high expectations. If this experience hadn’t happened to our family, I wouldn’t believe it. If the evening hadn’t ended with my child being given a rancid drink verified by the owner and manager, I wouldn’t take time out of a busy life to write this review. I share not to bad mouth the establishment but to reiterate to an owner that seems to be in denial that there is a glaring lack of service and professionalism. Our table was ready upon arrival which was a pleasant surprise in the Dallas dining scene. The house is quaint and kept up well. We were seated in a small side dining room and given we had a 2 year old with us we appreciated that. We acknowledge that our child may not be welcomed by five star diners. Our waiter, Lee, was personable and I explained it was our first visit and how this was my Dad’s special request. He promptly took our drink order and said he’d be back. He came back without all the drinks and didn’t know which cocktail was left off. We couldn’t discern either though they were supposed to be very different (CC & ginger vs Chambord & soda). I accepted the first drink and off he went for the other and my daughter’s chocolate milk. Thirty minutes later he returns and the milk is in a styrofoam cup which is smeared with chocolate dripping from the lid Again, we say nothing and clean it up and order. He leaves saying he’ll be back with bread. About 50 minutes later he returns with appetizers (crab cakes and stuffed mushrooms). We asked again if he could bring bread. Ninety minutes at a table without food is a bit long. Plus, after reading the descriptions and reviews, we were anxious to try it. Twenty minutes later, another server (not including her name for reasons that will be clear) enters to ask if we need anything. I explained we’d really like to try the bread and appreciated her help since we’d now asked four times in an hour. She was very evidently under the influence of something. Speaking in various accents and languages….fumbling about. Before leaving, she says she and Lee are covering the other dining rooms and made a few excuses. Shortly after, Randy stopped by the table and we shared our honest disappointment at how things were going. He defensively dismissed what I offered so I explained that, as a physician if my staff were to get a visit off on the wrong foot with a new patient, when I ask for feedback I want the opportunity to get the visit back on track and use the information to better our service. I offered to be reseated in an area that would be easier to service if that would help. He left.Food arrives about 15 minutes later delivered by the female server. She uses her foot to get a chair from a neighboring table and puts the tray on the chair. Randy enters minutes later and mentions to her that using the chair is unprofessional. We appreciated him following up and asked for the few things that had been forgotten (an entree, a side, the horseradish). Those items are eventually delivered and we are eating. Meat was done to order and sides were warm yet unremarkable. The way our dinner had proceeded ruined any feeling of ‘special occasion’ so my view of the food was admittedly biased. No food delivered after the comedy of errors would’ve had a wow factor. The female server returned speaking in a British accent this time and apologized repeatedly for how things had gone, said she’d ‘cover our desserts’, and off she went to get a refill of chocolate milk. Returns speaking in a Canadian accent and off she goes. Daughter sips her drink and makes a face. Her father tastes it and makes a face. We remove the lid to find a bubbly, thick, rotten yogurt-like substance! Now I’m no longer disappointed in a five star experience being anything but that. I’m angry. We ask the female server for the manager. Randy returns, tastes the drink, and says it’s buttermilk. The manager enters now and is the first person to seem honestly embarrassed and apologetic. My Dad asked for the check. She offered to box up our food and said there would be no bill. I declined to take the food, asked to pay for our drinks and she said they could not and would not accept anything given our experience. I shared that, in my experience, the server was inebriated, and a liability to them. The manager seemed genuinely interested in improving the restaurant and listened to all we shared. I still have no idea what was in the cup served to my child. I will contact Julie Stallcup with Health and Food Safety here in Frisco on Monday.
Dangerous and poor service.. I am absolutely appalled at Randy’s. We arrived around 6:30 for a celebratory dinner; my parents had just bought a new house to be closer to me and my husband. We were seated promptly but waited significantly for a waitress. I’d called ahead because I have a very serious nut allergy and was assured by the owner that they could accommodate us. I always take this as an indication that they want my business and the responsibility that comes with it; I never hold it against a restaurant if they feel they can’t but assume they’ll tell me upfront. I re-confirmed with the waitress and the owner when I arrived just to make sure they were on board. In any case…We ordered some apps and wine. It took a couple of tries on the wine because they were out of things – not really a big deal but it’s nice when the servers are educated on things like that. The stuffed jalapenos were undercooked but we were enjoying each others’ company so we stayed. Salads were good, then … a huge pause of maybe two hours or more. About halfway through, the waitress explains that they have no more lobster so we recalibrate our order (again, you’d think she’d know when she put the order in, not over an hour later). That said, I usually cut restaurants some slack when my food takes longer because I assume they’re just being careful. After about 3 hours of waiting for our meal, they bring out the food. The asparagus has VISIBLE ALMONDS all over it. Since I obviously can’t trust the kitchen now (I mean, if this is something I can SEE then it’s too risky to stay and see what hidden nuts could be in something), we ask to leave. The waitress pleads with us not to go and says she GUARANTEES all our food will be safe (which is definitely a little late at this point — if she can’t see giant almond slivers all over the asparagus before she brings it to the table, her guarantee doesn’t mean much). We tip her for her time and are out the door to head to Pei Wei for dinner (a restaurant that uses tons of nuts but just gets it when it comes to food allergies).Food allergies are more and more common and, in general, things have improved since I was younger. This is most true at upscale or finer dining establishments (but almost everywhere else as well). I expected that, at those prices, the kitchen could handle basic food safety but clearly no. This is a dangerous failure of communication that could end with someone in the hospital or dead. I will never, ever go back. If you have any food sensitivities, steer clear. They do NOT get it, even when you explain it to them. And sadly, aside from the serious error, the 2.5 hour wait for our entrees was completely unacceptable. No drink refills, no one pouring wine. This place is awful.
Excellent service, fabulous food and atmosphere. Randy personally speaks to everyone at each table several times. Highly recommended.
Terrible. Worst overpriced dining experience of my life. Service was awful, drinks were empty through the meal, requests for steak sauce and bread were ignored. All four people at my tables steaks were not cooked REMOTELY close to what was ordered. MY STEAK WENT BACK TO KITCHEN 3 times before I gave up and didn’t eat. The tab for this atrocity was $200 even after them removing my meal from ticket. 3 people no alcohol… $200 and the worst dining experience of my life.
Very dissatisfied!!! Went for restaurant week, and the selections were very limited. Chose the Ribeye, and it was flavorless! Girlfriend’s was more fat than meat! Overpriced and underwhelming! Won’t be back, not in the same class as say a Capital Grill. I don; think it was an off night, that’s just the level of quality they offer. Anyone with any sense of a palette would be wise to steer clear!
My wife and I started going to Randy’s several years ago for special occasions such as birthdays , valentines day, etc Now we have started going as often as we can just as a date night. The service by the staff has always made us feel special and pampered. There has not been one visit that we have failed to see Randy walking from room to room checking on both the food and his guest. One time me and my beautiful bride laughed hard when we saw Randy training a new young man. The new guy had just completed a new table setting when Randy walked in and made him start from scratch just because the table cloth corners were not up to Randy’s par! Now that’s attention to detail. I recommend the filet with sour cream and horseradish on the side. However, everything we have tried has been great. Ooh let’s don’t forget the homemade stuffed jalapeno’s!
