Where to begin. We started by wanting to sit upstairs/outside. We were told there were not enough wait staff on yet (it was 11:30) although only 3 tables were full. Sat inside instead and by the kitchen. The sun coming in the windows was hot but not enough air movement to keep you cool at all. Got the menu and prices seemed high but hey we were on vacation. Then ordered and the wait began. There were not a lot of patrons so we thought it shouldn’t take long. We waited for the first 1/2 hour pretty patiently. Told by waitress our food would be out shortly multiple times without us saying anything – which tells me even she thought it was taking a long time. While waiting my husband pointed out a man who looked to be a manager that he had seen in the restroom when we first got there and the man had left without washing his hands. After another 15 minutes go by, our food comes. Wouldn’t you know it was the man who didn’t wash his hands in the restroom who brought out our food! He had his finger touching the lettuce on our salad and that was a real turn off. I mean if this is the example he sets for the staff then who knows, right? I got my $12 burger (an extra dollar for cheese) and it was shrunk down so much you wouldn’t even know it was supposed to be 1/2 pound. It was charred beyond recognition and most of the cheese must have melted off while it was being burned as it looked like they had just lightly glazed it with cheese. Not appetizing. I asked for mayo but instead my husband was brought 2 extra tartar sauces which he doesn’t eat. The salad was supposed to have dressing but that was forgotten so they did go get that, plus some extra pear since only 2 thin slices could be found. The strawberries were even harder to find. My husband had seafood and that did seem pretty good but pricey. The next interruption to lunch was the screaming of staff for someone’s birthday. The chant and clapping was drill sergeant style and the echo in the nearly empty restaurant was nearly deafening. That is when my migraine started. We are not complainers, partially because that can lead to even worse experiences. Not sure that would have been possible in this instance! Will never go back and would not advise anyone to eat here.
Had my 1st ever shrimp here. Location wise it is very good. The fried shrimps were tasty too. But had to wait for a long long time to get a table, even after having a seat had to wait to give our orders & then they took their own sweet time to get them.
Pricey, crowded and LOUD.. I love the food at Bubba Gumps – I’ve been to multiple locations across the country and it’s consistently good. However, I don’t know if the Galveston location knows what they’re doing yet.We were placed on a wait list of almost two hours when first arriving to the location on the new pier off the seawall, and after two and a half hours we were finally called over the hard to hear outdoor PA and taken up to the second story and put in a holding area where we waited another twenty minutes in line to be seated. The only available seating was on the balcony, and from the second we sat down we were sprayed with sea water. The service was really slow – every time the waiter came by he stayed and talked for about 5 minutes about random stuff and then wouldn’t be seen again for another 20 minutes. The food was good, as always – I had boneless wings and onion rings, the sauce was a bit spicey. However, I had two small ice-cream-cone sized serving dishes of food and my bill with no drink was over $20, which is more than most other locations from what I can remember.Wish they’d do something about the seating system and the pricing.
Worst!. Not good
Horrid wait times. We arrived and found wait times to be 2.5 hours. Yeah, we didn’t wait and just left. So we lost out on $10 in parking for nothing.
Disappointing. Called ahead to see what wait would be. Was told 25 min. Arrive ten mins later and told 40 mins. 45 mins later told another 25 mins because a party of 75 just showed up which I think is BS. We never saw a group of 75 people appear at the front door. The kids running the reservations are clueless and could care less. Manager knows that people are becoming irritated, asks if everything is ok, we explain the situation and he promptly takes us to an indoor table, though we asked for outdoor. At that point we were just tired of waiting outside in the humidity and heat. Indoors was irritatingly noisy and reminded me of a hard rock cafe. The whole bubba gump theme is overdone to the point of boring. On scale of 1 to 10 I’d give the food a 6. The waiter was asking us during the course of our meal whether we wanted dessert – indicative of a lack of experience. Most of our entrees were $20 and not worth it. Leaving the restaurant we noticed a sign that said ‘Hiring all positions’. This is an ill-managed restaurant that apparently can’t hire quality personnel.
Worst dining experience ever. Hmmm, where to begin? How about from the beginning of the whole mess? Our party of five decided to eat here due to its close proximity to the beach where we planned to spend the afternoon at. Big mistake. We were greeted by a host and then servers who were barely fluent in English. This would have not been an issue except for the fact that it was difficult to understand what our server was saying and she could not understand us. Fromthis point on, things went down hill rather quickly. The chronological run down goes something like this: one order had the wrong side order, two of the orders came 15 minutes before the others, a margarita was watered down to the point of tasting like weak lemonade, one of the early delivered dishes was a small dried out hamburger, two of the dishes that were suppose to have jasmine rice had cold minute rice, the onions on one of the skewers had raw onions, another had fish covered in a slime-like substance, another margarita was never served, we pointed out to a server (who was non English speaking, of course) that a small boy at the table next to us licked the top of a ketchup bottle and he simply took it and set it back on a bus table with other bottles to be used again. And finally, last but by no means least, a young boy at our table pulled out a plastic like substance that was two inches long from his Mac and cheese dish. At this point, we were pretty much done and ready to leave. We explained te situation to our server. We asked to speak to the manager. After waiting long enough, one of the party went to go find her. She was downstairs tending the bar. After explaining the situation, she shrugged her shoulders and said she would come to our table to check the situation out. After coming to our table and again hearing our issues, she again shrugged and said they hadn’t had any other complaint that day. She did ask what she could do to remedy the situation. We offered to pay for two of the meals eaten (the two that arrived 15 before the others). The manager said she would be right back. Too bad she didn’t return. After 10 minutes we decided to leave, regretting our decision to walk through the doors and vowing to never step foot in there again! Think twice before walking into this over priced tourist trap!
