You would expect a place called the gumbo diner to have good gumbo, this was not the case. Wanted a cup of gumbo and a poboy. For some reason there is only one day of the week that is available. Had to order a big bowl of what was hands down the worst gumbo I’ve ever had. Sent it back and got a poboy which was decent.
We were patrons of the restaurant that used to sit in this location, and were staying at the hotel next door by luck on our latest trip to Galveston. I stopped by to grab breakfast to go one morning and was pleasantly surprised by the service, the quality of food and the value! We tried their beignets (sold in orders of 3 or 12) and a few orders of bacon and both were fantastic. A waiter named Sam sat me at the bar while I waited for my order and got me a drink and continuously checked on me.Parking is kind of limited, but it’s SO worth it. I would highly recommend it to anyone staying on the island!
Fresh and tasty gumbo and fried tilapia sandwich. Fried pickles were the best we’ve ever had. Ware staff was exceedingly friendly and prompt!
Beignets!. Vacationing on the island for a week, we quickly tired of the hotel’s continental breakfast and ventured our one morning. When I saw this place had beignets, we pulled into the parking lot. The staff was friendly and attentive. The beignets were the real deal, and our coffee cups were never empty. The two-egg breakfast was standard, with the exception of two delicious sausage links, which were unusually well-seasoned. My husband had the Happy Days with pancakes, and when he couldn’t decide what topping, the waitress recommended pecans instead. The pancakes were fluffy and filled with Texas pecans. There were regulars at the bar and tourists floating in and out. We would definitely go back!
Get here early for breakfast: limited parking and very popular: leave room for beignets or take some home. Seafood omelet was delicious today.
Breakfast. Eat the pancakes. If you dont eat the pancakes shame on you. Best pancakes in the world. Service was great. We have 2 kids, perfect for us. Eat the pancakes.
A clean well lighted place. Is this the best food on the island? Not really but the service is good & friendly. The menu has a nice selection of seafood. Breakfast is the real draw here, though my dinner Po-boy was very nice and comforting.I will be back… oh and this really is a clean well-lighted place.
