Outstanding!. If you are staying at Moody Gardens Hotel, or not, you need to try Shearn’s Restaurant. Fabulous food and service with a view of Galveston that is second to none. The lobster bisque is making my mouth water just writing about it. The chef even came out and greeted each and every table, even wishing the couple at the table adjacent to us Happy Anniversary. That’s great restaurant service. Michael and Damian took good care of us each time; we ate there twice during our stay and both times enjoying different foods, we were blown away. Steak as well as fish-Chilean sea bass and red snapper cooked to perfection. I think you will find Shearn’s offers a very special dining experience.
Enjoyable meal at a classy place. My husband and I were at Moody Gardens for a convention and Shearns had been suggested by a friend. I wore a simple sundress and my husband nice jeans and a collared shirt. We were treated like royalty by the young staff who were very good at helping us choose our meal and wines selections. The fish was very tasty, though seemed slightly overcooked. But overall a wonderful evening, in a lovely setting overlooking Galveston Bay.
Houston Restaurant Week Disappointment. My husband and I were excited to see Shearn’s listed in the Houston Restaurant Week establishments. The 9th-floor view was spectacular. The food wasn’t bad, but was not off the regular menu. The portions were very small. I started with a crabcake appetizer, which was a little over an inch in diameter- tasty, but tiny! My husband’s caesar salad was a reasonable size. I enjoyed the small filet mignon with bernaise sauce and grilled shrimp. This was not the same filet mignon that was served at the table next to us. My husband was not dissatisfied with the parmesan-crusted mahi mahi. He said it was good. The vegetables looked nice on the plate and tasted fine. For dessert, I had the creme brulee. It was good, but not excellent and the presentation lacked something. The chocolate bourbon pecan tart had several pecans in it; not impressed! I liked the wine service. The waiter poured our wine-by-the glass directly from the bottle, at the table. Finally, when the check was presented, a tip had been added. Since there were only two of us, I find this practice offensive.
Doesn’t open on Sunday
SERVICE IS DEPLORABLE. We went there expecting great things. The food was excellent but that is the only thing that I can say good about the restaurant. We HAD to ask for bread. We HAD to ask for more water. This is all when the waiter and service staff were passing our table constantly. Our dirty plates sat in front of us for at least 20 minutes before anyone even thought to come and pick them up. The mixed drink I had when I got there was so strong that I told the waiter. He did not seem interested in exchanging it and so it sat there the entire dinner. We did not get charged for it. However, there is an automatic 17% tip added to entire bill. This is the first time we have encountered this with only 2 people at the table. We wish to tip on acceptable service, not on a prearranged tip. We will not go back!
Great service, great food, great views, and stiff drinks. What else can you ask for?
Anniversary dinner was lovely.. After reading all 6 online reviews of Shearn’s, I thought it would have fantastic views, great food, but small portions at a very high price.I loved my dinner there, it was fabulous. But the views, although panaramic and good, were not the most fabulous I have seen. From the lounge you can see the sunset, part of Moody Gardens, huge parkin lots, and the entire skyline of the port an Texas City. Not so nice until after dark, when all the lights are on … but you are still looking out to a port and an industrial center, which I like, but am not sure I would brag about. The Reisling wine I had was excellent as was the service in the lounge. It had a smokey smell, but I was glad to notice no cigars were allowed. Across the hall in the Restaurant itself, the staff is organized, able and willing. Great service. They had 2 specials that night of blacken salmon and grilled shrimp and a 16 oz ribeye with lump crab and mushrooms. My love can not stand seafood, so he had the ribeye withut the mushrooms or the crab. Both entrees were Fantastic and were just as lovely to llok at as to eat! And I do believe there was a pound of salmon on my plate and my husband ‘s ribeye looked bigger than 16 oz.., so, as far as we could tell, the portions were very generous. The salad I ordered had pears, heart of palm, strawberries on a mixed herb salad with warm nut encrusted goat cheese. I would have like more pears, apples and heart of palm. It had these tiny cubes of the pears and apples at the bottom of the salad, so mix the beautiful presentation up so you can taste it. They pan fried the goat cheese, which allowed the oils of the nuts to mix with the pan or cheese oils or something … I would have just warmed the encrusted cheese either in a microwave or in a clean dry pan or used larger pecan pieces. Then you would not taste the oilyness over the nuttiness. The presentations were flawless. They serve a delicious sorbet in between the salad or appetizer and the entree. A pleasant surprise … never had that happen anywhere else we have gone.Yes, it is pricey. But less than Fogo de Chau and a few other places we have been to recently. Service was EXCELLENT. And even though you can see a wonderfully designed old sewer treatment plant from the restaurant, the overall views with the brown pelicans flying close to the windows, was fantastic and romantic. Since I used to help run several sewer plants, I really enjoyed analyzing the three clarifiers and the great effluent well design, but others might not even notice it. Personally, I think Shlitterbaum. Moody Gardens and the other area businesses should offer to put low maintence shrubs around the sewer plant, to enhance the entire area. Just an idea. The restaurant, its food and the staff were all fantastic and we had a fabulous anniversary dinner. Thanks for a great time!
