Last night in Texas, wanted something nice. Very dissapointed. Potatoes and shrimp were cold, had to be sent back. Another entre, the house special, was overcooked. For $47 you would think they would take better care of the fish. Entire restaurant was freezing cold, all guests were wearing jackets during dinner. Management didn’t seem to care.
Visited last may after its re-opening and loved it; yet this may (2013) we were sadly disappointed. Food took well over an hour to get food.. we never got silverware, bread, or menu. I had to go find kitchen staff to get bread and utensils. Our server ,Al,i was the worst server on the planet! On my second attempt at getting utensils I joked about my bad server to kitchen fellow and he must have informed the asst manager. Manager promptly came over to apologize and bring free drinks and a desert. He came to see how our desert was (we had been there an hour and a half) and I asked if our food was almost ready. He looked shocked. Food was just ok. We will return only because the manager assured us they were a bit crazy from it being Memorial Day weekend and the first busy service for the kitchen. Well manager Stout we shall try one last time
I so want to like this place but cannot endorse it yet. It is right down the street from our weekend home and the restaurant itself is just what we like – great waterfront, nautical atmosphere. Unfortunately the food was very bad when we went for lunch. The luncheons was very limited and basic which was an initial disappointment but what actually prompted this review is that the food itself was really bad. There was almost no one there the day we had lunch so I can’t blame it on being overwhelmed – the food was just bad. One person ordered a chili dog which we all laughed about but it was touted on thee I as a large dog with special chili and it sounded like a perfect match for a Saturday beer. Unfortunately what was presented was actually two tiny skiing hot dogs put into one large bun and topped with what was surely canned chili. Not that anyone is going for the chili dogs but just extrapolate that description to the whole lunch experience and you should get the point. To watermans – please get it together. I want this place to be great so bad. I really do. Place some emphasis on the actual food quality, get a decent kitchen staff, whatever it takes but with the fantastic location and dining room this should be wash to do it right.
I would go again. We came for our anniversary. Had a reservation with a request for a window table. Upon arrival the hostess told us there was only one window table in the back and the next available one would go to another woman who arrived at the same time as we did even though we had reservation and has been assured a window table. Bottom line, after sitting at a non window table and being completely ignored for 10 minutes, my husband had to walk up to the hostess stand to find out if we even had a server…subsequently we were moved to a window table as two had opened up and the aforementioned woman had been seated and served drinks and bread already elsewhere. Fried green tomatoes looked delicious but were ok, not great. Greek salad was very boring, missing tomato and came late…same time as our entrees. I had grilled shrimp and Shrimp kisses. Grilled shrimp were good although swimming in butter sauce. Green beans were barely cooked, but fresh. Shrimp kisses were big and tasty and great with the ranchy dipping sauce. Husband had grilled snapper. It was good. Nothing special or outstanding in any way but the entrees were good. Overpriced but i guess you are paying for the view, which was of the water and we saw the sunset. Bread pudding for dessert was underwhelming and somewhat tasteless. Service was good once we finally got a server. I would dine here again, I think. It was good enough to pique my curiosity about some of the other selections. Just a bit expensive and they definitely need to lose the dingbat hostess.
Nice place. Great atmosphere, food, service. Crawfish touffe was delicious. Brownie outstanding. This is my new place when I visit the island.
UPDATE. Waterman’s just recently re-opened the fist week of may 2012. I am down in Galveston a lot, and i prefer you to defiantly check this place out. They are now open Mon-Sun from 11am-11pm. There is a sand bar downstairs that is very casual for when you’re out on the boat and need a quick meal. the sandbar is what is open from 11am-4pm. & the more fine dining is open from 4pm-11pm on the upstairs level. They are building a brand new marina so you can dock your boat to eat. Its a very kid-friendly restraunt. on Friday & saturday there is a band that plays all night in the sandbar area. Its very alive, and the service is AMAZING. Check it out!! PS- defiantly try the shrimp kisses. They’re a Waterman’s favorite.
Neat Place. This is a cool place that’s a little off the tourist path.Everything we had here was great. My personal favorite are the Shrimp Kisses.Garlic Calamari was a big hit with the girlfriend. It is a little expensive, but worth it!
