Skip this one folks. The prices are not justified for the quality and taste of the food. The service is good but this is not a do again for us. It has been a long while since we have had food that tasted this bland. Stay away from the gumbos here as they are just oily file bowls.
Mediocre food, especially for the price. We went to Willie G’s in Galveston and sat outside on the deck. It was a very nice view. We started off with the stuffed jalapenos. Very good appetizer, and also very very hot. For the main dish I had the large seafood gumbo. It had a horrible flavor and was inedible. It actually made me slightly nauseous. I sent it back. I told him I tried to like it and he seemed to understand (probably because others have sent it back in the past). He was very nice and took it off our bill. My wife had some kind of fish for $25.99. It was very bland and lacked flavor. You would expect a lot more for the price, like others have said on here. My daughter had a cob salad with chicken. She didn’t even finish it. My mom had some grilled chicken with rice and asparagus. Hers was just so so as well. Out of 5 dishes (including the appetizer) only one was good, the jalapeno poppers. Very disappointed and won’t be back. This Willie G’s was good about 15 years ago, but not so any more. Save your money.
Appreciated the late seating 9:30pm. Excellent, fresh seafood.
My husband and I came for our anniversary. I was a little worried because it Kooke more casual than I was hoping for. However, we were not disappointed in the food! We are from Louisiana so we know good food! I got the shrimp platter – shrimp 4 ways and they were the best I’ve ever had! Our waitress, Dasha, was very attentive and wonderful. My husband loved his sirloin steak as well. Definitely glad we tried it!
Risotto was like pasty mashed potatoes, and salmon was not even seasoned with salt and pepper. red fish louisanna was ok.
This place is awesome. But you will pay for what you get
Not quite fine dining. Willie G tries hard to sell itself as a fine dining spot, but falls short on a number of categories. The decor, the prices, and the lack of a children’s menu all attest to the fact that Willie G tries to position itself as an upscale dining establishment. The dishes however come short: the risotto accompanying my tuna was not done using arborio rice and the result was a sticky mess, quite tasty but more reminiscent of rice pudding than of a properly prepared risotto. The tuna itself was cooked rare as requested but lacked any seasoning. My dining companion’s snapper was well cooked, but drowned under a savory sauce we could not quite identify which clashed with the grape coulis. The bread pudding was nice and the only course without serious flaws. The fact that it’s made with croissants makes the pudding very fluffy, which is not often the case in bread pudding. The really unacceptable part of the meal was the service: our waitress was distracted, had very little knowledge of the wine list, and committed several mistakes in opening and pouring the wine (for example, we had to request that the bottle be chilled at the table). The wine list itself is small, but not without pleasant surprises. Finally, after being a no show for most of the meal, the waitress dropped off the check before we were served our desserts. To top it all, she switched around our parking ticket (Willie G validates) so that we had to rely on the understanding of a very nice parking attendant who believed us when we told her that we had not been parked there 8 hours. All in all, this was a nice family restaurant meal. Upscale or fine dining it was not.
