The food was decent, although parts of my breakfast came out lukewarm. The portions are big. The atmosphere was about what you would expect from a place called grumpy’s – dumpy, but clean. My primary issue was poor service. We had to ask for everything we needed more than once. We didn’t have enough napkins or straws. We were routinely skipped on coffee refill rounds. Every customer seated after us in our section received their food before us. Some of them were completely finished eating by the time I received my meal witch did not arrive with the rest of the family’s meals.
Outstanding! Portions are massive. No understatement.. Plate sizes are 12×8 and are packed with very tasty food! The chicken biscuit smothered in real sausage gravy was outstanding! The chicken perfectly cooked and super juicy, the gravy is the best sausage gravy I have had in a restaurant! Hands down!! The nachos were full of beef and completely satisfying. There isn’t anything in this menu that 2 adults couldn’t split and be completely full at theend of the meal. The decor can turn some people away and if you’re one of those type of people you don’t deserve the goodness that is sold at this restaurant.. This is my new and forever go to place!
I took my daughter and her friend to Grumpy’s for breakfast. It was our first time and it was pretty busy but we took that as a good sign. I ordered the biscuits and gravy because I saw one of the wait staff bring one out and it looked amazing. Unfortunately before our food came out my daughter’s friend spotted a GIANT cockroach walking along the wall just underneath the area where the food is set out for the wait staff to deliver from the kitchen. Most roaches scurry off when people are around, this one just walked along the wall like it was an employee inspecting the food.
When someone calls a place a joint they must be talking about Grumpys! And what an awesome joint it is!!! We ordered the chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken, and the enchilada plate. Holy smokes the portions are huge! Note in the CFS photo that that is the LUNCH portion – obviously more than enough for most even at dinner. But double the protein and you have the CFC meal shown. We mixed the sides so that we could try the fries as well as the onion rings. The former was chunky, crisp and great while the latter ranked up there with the best rings Ive ever had. The steak is covered with a brown gravy and the chicken with a white gravy. Both are very good but the flavor edge goes to the brown. I may ask for it on my chicken next time just because! The meals started with a small salad. The enchiladas were enormous (of course) and the meat was nicely seasoned through and through. As an interesting addition they add MORE meat on top of the enchiladas just because! :)The staff is friendly and welcoming, service is quick, and the place – sorry, joint – is just fun to be in. Great food, huge portions, and the very reasonable prices make tremendous value. What more could you ask for? Perfection!facebook.com/groups/rvrestaurantreviews
Love the breakfast food, hate the service!. We usually go for the breakfast menu, though we’ve had their mexican and regular lunch choices too. I like their breakfast tacos. Very cheap and huge. Have to say that now and then I do get a cold tortilla and have to ask for another one. Their chicken fried steak is huge and spouse says is delicious. I’m not fond of their mexican dishes but I am also pretty picky on that score. Jacala is my true love for mexican. Plates are heaped high with whatever you order. Now let’s discuss service..sigh! Not their strong point. At all. Starts with the owner’s wife. She will call your name and tell you to hurry up, come on as your fighting your way though a Sunday lunch crowd. Personally, I think that’s rude. She has never done that to me but I have seen her do it to others. The staff has one or two good waitresses. That is it. Linda is one of them and I always ask for her now and I hate when she isn’t working. I’ve not only watched people get up and get their own drink, napkins, etc I’ve also had to do it. You will sit a long time waiting for refills especially if they are busy. I’ve had to ask multiple times for creamer, lemon, refills and still they forget. Then they have an attitude. I must say if my spouse didn’t love their biscuits and gravy so much and I their tacos, I would bypass them. If you go try their tacos.
