Hit or Miss. We had a really pleasant experience here the other day. The chopped brisket was great, but the sliced was a little tough and quite fatty. The chicken was moist. Both the regular sausage and the hot sausage were really good. The sauce was pretty vinegary.Hubby loved the mac & cheese. The potato salad was good, the okra was okay, and the roll was almost inedible – it was so yeasty. The staff were chatty and nice. There is no changing table in the bathroom.
Good Neighborhood Q. My family and I were the first ones to arrive today. The owner (I think) was very courteous and allowed me to sample the hot links; one more done than the other, and both very tasty. So here’s the rundown. Very friendly service. The (fatty) sliced brisket was not the best I’ve had, but was smoked well, and had a pretty typical Texas style taste, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I have had brisket at several Texas staples including Black’s, and it seems Texas brisket is cooked longer or more done than I do mine. I’m more accustomed to a spicier hot link, but the flavor and texture was great. The ribs, 7.5 out of 10 on taste, but there wasn’t a lot of meat there. The turkey was as moist and seasoned as any turkey I’ve had. I think it would make an award worthy turkey sandwich if put on the right bread, and they bake their own so… The real fries, the best side I tried, but I usually don’t do sides when I’m going for Q and it’s my first time at a place. All in all, solid food and a nice staff. I wouldn’t drive hours for it, but if I lived in the area, I’d probably visit at least once a month.
Overnight flight connection at DFW and found this place by accident. Incredible food and staff couldn’t be friendlier or more helpful! Be sure to try the Pecan Cobbler…best dessert I’ve ever had!
Just at here. Food really good. Brisket was delicious! Friday night catfish was also delicious.
Please Do Some Dusting!. Let me start by saying the food was above average. I had ribs and chopped brisket and the ribs were ++. The sides were also more flavorful than most typical Texas BBQ, but PLEASE do some cleaning! The decor was old and dusty – not rustic, dirty! One of the ceiling fans had no blades! Come on, the food deserves better! One’s left to hope that they spend more time keeping the kitchen clean than they do the dining room. diningoutdfw.com
Good flavors on the ribs and brisket. The ribs are well rendered and have excellent flavor from the rub mixed with smoke, the same holding true for the brisket. The ribs were moist, the beef was on the dry side even though I asked for lean and fatty, though really couldn’t tell the difference. The slices did not hold together at all, as you can see in the picture, making it probably more suitable between the bun; yet still, on flavor, one of the better bbq’s when up against others in the area – (Red Barn and the Feedstore). Unfortunately, though flavorful, the bark had softened some, probably due to hanging out in the warming box.Next visit, I’ll definitely try one of the sausages, which had a very inviting appearance of a crispy casing. I noticed they were selling quite a few of them. Standard sides are available (the lightly seasoned green beans and potato salad were good) and the plate dinners came came with a large, fluffy dinner role. This isn’t Central Texas BBQ, but then, I don’t think that’s what they’re shooting for. They have their own flavors from the rub and that along with the good smokiness seems to have them hitting their own mark. If you’re looking/expecting Smitty’s, Mueller’s, etc, don’t stop here. If you’re looking for a plate of good tasting, smoked meats, then make the stop.
Great BBQ @ a ma & pa place. The line may be slow but that’s because the owner takes his time selecting the pieces to put on your plate. The roles are homemade along with the sides. All time favorite for BBQ.
