Mexican Hamburgers. This place has been on our wishlist for a while so we took it off today. It is a little restaurant to the left of that bright blue bordered Contessa Inn or whatever it is so they share a parking lot.The inside has tables and booths and can seat quite a few people. It is a reasonable and comfortable interior with a TV playing. We were told to sit anywhere. Menus were brought to us and we were served with chips and hot sauce quickly and our drinks brought promptly. No diet dr pepper. One special guest with us today got the sweet rice milk like concoction and is was tasty and worth a try. The chips and red sauce were good but not standout. We asked what was good here and were immediately told that their most popular item is the torta combinada so 2 of us got that with some beef/bistek corn tortilla tacos. The last of our trio got the wet donkey with beef and beef tacos. Our order came rather quickly and our service was prompt to keep the chips coming. We were given 2 types of green sauce to add on to our sauces or entrees. 1st, the double corn tortilla steak tacos were good with onion and cilantro added….above average. 2nd, the beef wet donkey was described as good but it got better the more he ate till he finished it…..it was a beef burrito covered with a sauce. And last, our tortas were probably the best thing we had there, unique and overall above average food. It is a steak and ham sandwich served on grilled american type hamburger buns which we have never seen before. We asked the staff and they said this is exactly how they are made and eaten and enjoyed in the state of juarez, mexico. So there you have it…we were told it is like the mexican version of a hamburger there.JG score of 5 (+1.5 for food, +1 for atmosphere, +1 for price, 0 for no diet dr pepper, +0.5 for service and +1 for we would return)
What-A-Taco. I sort of ran across this place by accident, but I was hungry and had never eaten there before, so I had lunch. 3 beef tacos with rice and beans and everything was really good, plus they had can cokes and I got out of there for under $10.00, so it is high on my list of places to eat. Did I mention the service was very good as well. The only fault I found was the tacos were the small versions, but I still left full, but I do prefer a full size taco. Still a great place to eat and I certainly will again and again. If you have not been there it is located right next to the Contessa Inn and across from the Volkswagen dealer on the North side of Highway 31.
Taco terrific. Great service from friendly staff. Simple and delicious. The tacos were authentic perfection. The corn tortillas were soft and full of flavor. I had the chicken fajita and beef tacos. They were soooo fresh and good. And the refried beans were so perfect and creamy. Just fresh, simple delicious food in a relaxing place. Great ending to a not so great day
