Best place in East Texas that is home cooking that does not even do it justice. I had the smothered porkchops, purple hull peas, mashed potatoes and corn bread, I never can sit and eat that much at one setting but not only did I wipe it out (big servings) but I wiped out the banana pudding for desert. My neighbor that went with me got the chicken fried steak it looked so good I went back last night and got it double purple hulls and the pound cake it has 5 or 7 flavors. I only know it is good. I have one more neighbor lady I want to treat and then I am holding off for a couple of weeks. See Sylvia Maes Soul Food on facebook and there are pictures of the food. It’s worth it for me living here but for those who don’t it is worth the drive to Jacksonville to eat that woman’s home cooking. Looking forward to going back this evening if your skinny miny worried about weight well I did hear she makes salads. But go enjoy a feast. I bet I gained 50 well after going back today for a third time in two days, I LOVE IT!!!! Kelly T Jacksonville, Texas05 Mar, 2015Banana Pudding. Mama (RIP) Miss Sylvia’s banana pudding won I am not a big desert eater but she changed all that and I don’t know how I fit it in, but it was all gone before I left.05 Mar, 2015Smothered Pork Chops. It was so tender I didn’t even need a knife, so was the chicken fried steak I had later in the day. There was still enough left for me to eat a second time. Lights went out at my home so I went that night and ate the chicken fried steak and it was all I had dreamed it would GREAT!05 Mar, 2015Sylvia Mae’s Soul Food My New Home Away From Home. I liked it so well, I ate there twice in one day. If you’re wanting a skinny person’s salad don’t go…If you want food like my mama and many mama’s in East Texas used to make then you will be right at home. I have had the smothered pork chops and now the chicken fried steak. First at lunch with my smothered porkchops I had purple hull peans and mash potatoes. For desert hands down the best banana pudding I have ever eated. That evening the lights went out on my side of town and I went there for supper it was right before 8, her closing time and she still cooked me a chichen fried steak I also had double purple hull peas, cornbread (a story of its own it’s so good) and for desert the 7 flavored pound cake. It was great. However the banana pudding still won out to me. Sylvia is a very kind woman. She was waiting for some people coming from a near by town and it was her closing time. Now what restaurant does that! Sylvia’s does it is like coming home. I recommend it. It’s about 8.00 plus tax for a plate, but it’s home cooked not pattied pretend meat. It’s worth every penny and it’s now my new home to go to eat! Share it and make the drive it’s so worth it.
