Jims is my go-to! Best diner chain with a very Texas feel which I love. Of course, its nothing fancy so dont go thinking youre going to get some gourmet meal. But it tastes like home cooked food, is always consistent and thats exactly what I want. I also love that the wait staff always seem to love being there no matter what location I go to. I will always go here over Dennys or IHOP.
It’s not mind blowing food but really good basic food. I have had many Chicken Fried Chicken breakfast there and I love it.Lately they have been serving / offering Jalapeo gravy with I have had with my usual breakfast and loving it.Love the service and all the familiar faces I see every time I visit Jim’s.
Sub-par at best. Everything had the same bland flavor. The toast had a texture of being microwaved and no clue where the breakfast sausage’s mushy texture came from, it was just odd. Never going back.
Good simple food. As an Alabama native, I was glad to find Austin had some traditional down-home cookin’ places like Jim’s. I like the simple, filling, classic foods here. The place could use a remodel and maybe a little bit better service but overall the food is good and service is not bad enough to stop me from eating here. As a person who grew up eating Shoney’s but saw most of them go out of business I immediately took a liking to Jim’s. They don’t have a buffet but they have good classic foods that fill up my southern tummy! 😉
I got a patty melt and a side order of toast. Both were subpar. How do you mess up toast? Instead of butter they used an artificial oil that tasted just like fake popcorn butter. The patty melt was very dry. It tasted like it was cooked hours before and then warmed up on a flat top.
How can you screw up breakfast?. My husband and I asked that before we went to Jim’s one evening for breakfast. We got our answer. Pretty bad. The eggs were a little undercooked, but passable. The biscuits and gravy were terrible. The sausage was unrecognizable as anything, both greasy and dry, a very weird texture and salty was its only flavor. Hash browns were cold and hard. I joked they served us plastic hashbrowns from a little girl’s toy kitchen. The pancakes were good, but not good enough to get me to set foot in there again.
Good Texas comfort foods. Chicken fried steak, meatloaf, pot roast, fried fish. Pretty standard diner fare. Chicken fried steak was pretty good, the squash medley served with it was fantastic. Big slices of buttered Texas toast. Real lemonade, not minutemaid. Peach cobbler with ice cream was some of the best I’ve had. There was a problem with my wife’s order, the waitstaff took care of it promptly, and the manager came over to apologize personally. Good place to go when you just want some good Texas style diner food.
