Maybe I should just give up on Korean food. I never seem to like it. It always seems to be perpetually under seasoned as well. Or is that by design so…

Oh. My. Damn. I just had maybe the best sushi experience of my life at Osaka Sushi. Tiny place, nice people, excellent Sushi.
Went to Osaka for lunch today. I couldn’t find their menu online so I went in to look at the menu and order to-go. The lunch menu definitely isn’t the best around. I found myself wanting to substitute a couple of things, but of course that is not allowed. I ended up getting the two roll special with a philly roll and a spicy tuna roll. There was a small bench to wait on, but right in the entrance. It felt pretty awkward with lunch rush traffic. My order got to me pretty quickly, and I was jazzed to try the food. I figured with the rating on here, it would be great. I was very disappointed. None of what I had tasted fresh in the least. I don’t think it was harmful to eat, but definitely didn’t taste fresh. Furthermore, all of the ingredients seemed to have a strange oily glaze. Not the normal wetness of sushi. Bottom line, I would not recommend this restaurant.
Loved this place!!! Service was a little slow for refills but the sushi was great and it was VERY affordable for the lunchtime specials!! Nice quant place.
Sub par food and poor service. A friend and I went to Osaka early on a Saturday night. There were only 4 other people in the restaurant so we were seated immediately. But that’s where the good customer service ended. We ordered 4 rolls of sushi, a salad, and edamame. The edamame and salad were fine. The rolls were where they really struggled. All 4 rolls were their specialities, but they were just plain bad. The only cooked roll tasted like liquid smoke or lighter fluid. Maybe they torched it or hadn’t let the lighter fluid burn off yet? I’m not sure but it was not my idea of tasty. They never refilled my drink. I’m not picky about them rushing over to refill my water, but if I’ve been there an hour and it’s been empty for 45 minutes and placed on the end of the table for a clear visual, you might want to refill it. My biggest problem came with the check. I gave them my card and they came back and said it was declined. It had $3000 on it, so I think I could cover a $50 meal. But I didn’t argue and gave them another card. Again, she said it was declined and started to treat me like a broke joke trying to eat a meal I couldn’t afford. So I gave her another card. Again, it was declined! After 3 cards, maybe they should check their machine when I’ve clearly got the money to cover the bill. So finally, I gave them cash. But rather than apologizing or admitting their machine might have a problem, they treated me like a common criminal. Needless to say, I won’t be going back. Go to Midori across the street. They have great service and their rolls are AMAZING!
Osaka is my comfort food. Osaka has the best Korean food in Austin!I come to this restaurant regularly (probably once a week), and I generally order the same thing, because I haven’t found any place in Austin that does Korean food better. I’m a huge sushi fan (I used to live in Japan), but to be honest, the dolsot bibimbab is so good I go strictly for that. They get the bowls so hot that it properly crisps the rice. It tastes like a tiny miracle. There’s a good lunch menu of generously proportioned bento boxes, but if you ask nicely, they’ll bring you the dinner menu and let you choose from their whole range of food. Their Japchae is good as well, and all the Korean items come with that awesome array of side dishes Korean food is famous for. It’s really a feast.Service here is always friendly, and I never have a hard time getting in and out for lunch in about an hour. It helps that I come right at opening, before it gets packed.I’ve heard that the Japanese food is great here as well, but since most of the staff is Korean, I’d rather stick to the Korean entrees and get a more authentic taste.
Great place. Authentic Korean flavor, fresh and multiple options for sushi. Even their basic fried rice is savory. I highly recommend it.
After reading the reviews I thought I’ll give it a try. I passed this place a million times and even that it’s not much on the outside I was really surprised by the inside. Very small place with great staff that took the time to explain some of the rolls. Awesome lunch specials for around $10. My husband had the beef bulgogi lunch special with miso soup and salad, bulgogi and rice. Veggie tempura and he got to pick a handroll all for 10 bucks. I myself had the 6 piece Sushi combo with a rainbow roll and miso soup abc salad for $13 but I believe it stared around $8 with just a regular California roll. Can’t wait to go back. Everything was excellent and one of the best bulgogi in town
