Not publicized – but good. The is a small local chain. It serves very good bbq and probably has the best selection of sides of all bbq places in town. Its not fancy, trendy, or cool. So it doesn’t get the attention it deserves IMHO. Not THE best BBQ in town but pretty good all around. Better food than atmosphere places like Rudys. Secret item: best chicken sandwich in town – fresh made with sliced smoked chicken breast on texas toast with tomatoes, and chopped onion and pickles..
Decent. Not bad for a chain, I never heard of this place. This was the closest place I could find for decent BBQ.
I love Pok-E-Jo’s. I get barbeque every time I come to Austin and I particularly like Pok-E-Jo’s. Since my son lives in the Arboretum area, this is the one we get to quite frequently. It’s not my favorite of the Pok-E-Jo’s because it’s a bit tight…but the food is good…I particularly like getting the pork rib and brisket plate with sides of green bean casserole and whatever else hits my fancy at the moment. I also enjoy the Texas Toast!
Good BBQ dining. In my hood, I can choose between Rudy’s or PokEJo’s. To be honest, I often forget about this place because it’s tucked away in the Arboretum plaza. But when I feel like eating BBQ on a plate, PokEJo’s serves up good BBQ, a cool atmosphere and friendly service.Packed at lunchtime, this location can be a ghost town at dinner and on weekends. They have weekly plate specials, their brisket, IMHO, rivals Rudy’s, but their sauce is sweeter. Service is cafeteria style, but the servers go out of their way to customize a plate or run to your table with an item.I like their big choice of sides, and yes, I do like eating on a plate. The nice big slice of Texas toast is also a plus to make any plate quite complete.
Great place for lunch!. Pok-E-Jo’s has fast service with great food. The staff at Pok-E-Jo’s prepare your meal in front of you, cutting your meat and scooping your sides as you ask for them so you know exactly what you’re getting. Paying before you eat is another great part of this BBQ restaurant, as you wont be late to work from waiting for your check.
Plenty of Choices. Pok-E-Jo’s has been a favorite in-town BBQ source for a long time. It’s not the Salt Lick, but it’s much more convenient for lunch. The variety of meats and side dishes is wonderful, and they offer a variety of different plates and platters to suit any appetite.
Maybe I do not know what real BBQ is, but I really like this place and they have a great spicy BBQ sauce and a bunch of sides, not just green bean and Cole slaw
