I would have taken a picture, but we ate it too fast. Rudy’s is one of the best quality barbecue places around, especially for a place of its speed and convenience. Rudy’s also holds its own in terms of the quality of leftovers, which cannot, unfortunately, be said of Austin’s barbecue king, Franklin’s. While I have not yet found a place with brisket as succulent fresh out of the pit as Franklin’s, Rudy’s meats remain delectable when they are reheated and Franklin’s become wooden. Rudy’s also has the benefit of being a walk-through line that never takes longer than 20 minutes. Many places have one particular delicacy among their meats, but I can highly recommend the brisket, ribs, and jalapeo sausage – no one dish is best. The baked beans here are also some of the finest around. It is well worth a visit, especially if you don’t have the time to wait through a 2-hour line at Franklin’s or for seating and service at the Salt Lick.

So after seeing the lines at Franklins, and not wanting to drive to Lockhart, I decided to try some of the other BBQ in town. Rudy’s is excellent. I’m sorry, unless angels fly down from the sky and put the brisket in your mouth, I can’t imagine any joint being THAT much better than Rudys. Hype is hype…
Barbecue as science AND art. Say what you want to about places where people who have nothing better to do than wait in line for 2 hours, but give me Ruby’s any day of that. I have had about 59 BBQ meals here and never once have they failed my. Their brisket is always just perfect. They are like some kind of scientists. I swear give these guys a physics lab and in a year they would perfect a superconductor.. Or cold fusion. Their sauce is good too.

We love the one on 183. We eat here all the time, food is always great, service is always with a smile. One of our favorite places to go. Order the brisket extra moist outside cut, it’s the Best!!
First time ever. We normally go to Salt Lick or Coopers in LLano but this time our son took us to Rudy’s and it was very good. hope to get their this year.
