This place has a new chef who has a ton of experience around Austin. I was very impressed with the $2 tacos on Tuesday. Nice presentation and a wonderful homemade taste. I hear that soon they’ll be adding ribeyes and other great main courses. Perfect place for NW Austin residents and beyond.
Great place with my kind of attitude!. Back in April, I came to Senoritas (The previous owner’s name for this place) and found it to be gaudy, quiet, and poorly managed. When it was bought out and turned into Stompin’ Grounds, all three of those issues were resolved, and it’s turned into the one place I visit EVERY time I’m in Austin. The food is good, especially considering how limited the menu was when the doors were first opened. The first time, I went, the menu was limited to a couple of appetizers. Now, it includes sandwiches, burgers, appetizers, salads- all of far higher quality than I expect out of a bar. The Shrimp Diablo and Street Car Tacos deserve special mention for their outstanding quality, time after time- especially when served with the (usually handmade) salsa. Delicious!The bar is not only well-stocked, but run by bright, creative, friendly bartenders who can come up with an order quickly, and make helpful suggestions if you’re not sure what you’re in the mood for. Especially when Loren and Clint are working in the evenings, you know you’re in good hands. Ditto for the waitresses- Holly is an absolute delight. The owner clearly knows how to find and keep good people, which is critical, especially if you want regulars. Now, like anywhere, you take care of your server and they’ll take care of you- a rule I live by at any bar or restaurant. That said, I’ve sat inside, outside, at the tables, at the bar- and I’ve never had my glass go dry for more then a moment. Top notch. An especially nice touch is the entertainment- you’ve got your choice between video games, pool, and foos-ball- nice diversions, especially if you’re waiting for live music to start, which has been excellent every time I’ve been in. A standout is the Karaoke night- while I don’t sing, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of performers that were there. All in all, this bar is everything I want as a patron- and nothing I don’t.
