My husband and I come here very often. We take friends there and they love it! Our 1 year old even loves it. It’s turned into our date night spot. We have never had a bad experience and everything we have ever ordered has been fantastic!
Well this could have been a really good experience. The tortilla soup description sounded perfect. Light ingredients and then pure chicken broth poured in at the table. I ordered it and was clear I did not want any cilantro. The staff person set it in front of me and before I could open my mouth to stop her she poured in the broth spreading the large chopped portion of cilantro all throughout the soup. I must admit I should have said something right then and sent it back but it seems like such a waste that I have difficulty doing that so instead I painstakingly picked and tried to get out as much of it as I could but frankly it ruined it for me and to add insult to injury she and the manager clearly saw me picking it out into a pile but never said anything.I had also ordered the lunch beef enchiladas and had a sunny side up egg added to the top. The enchiladas were average. The addition of the egg gave it a +. The chile gravy not in my palates favorite flavor zone but that’s a personal thing so might be fine for you. I hadn’t been there in 3 or more years and probably will wait that long again.
Won’t be back. 6/10/14 Had a girl’s night out . We were waiting for the rest of our party to arrive an sat at one of the tables by the bar. There were several empty tables around us and no one waiting. The manager came over and asked us to move. We were hoping to get a couple of drinks. We did not feel welcome and we will not be back. Very poor service by the manager!
Loves it!!! Best service, f…. Loves it!!!Best service, fantastic salsa and the only place in town that knows how to make a great Paloma. Everyone goes above and beyond to take care of you. Once they get to know you it feels like you are family. Everything I’ve tried has been great. Can’t recommend this place enough.
Great food and great service. Very flavorful food which is become rare these days. Drinks were good too. I’ve been there many times and have never been disappointed!
No more chips…… Six of us for dinner and two small bowls of chips on the table. Ordered a large Queso and when we requested more chips, we were told that the management was cutting back on chips and they did not have enough to give us more. What???? What value is a Tex-Mex restaurant without chips. In addition, our waitress had too many tables and could not be attentive, although she tried. Top it all off with dirty silverware that took forever to replaced due to the lack of service. Next time I am going across the street to Serrano’s, where I hear that the chips are plentiful.
Have the Pico!. With the rare occasion of being childless and husbandless I decided to treat myself to TexMex which I have not had in a little while. I loved the hand-blown glass bulbs that greet you at the entrance and continue throughout the place. Chips and salsa were provided as soon as being seated. The chips were quite good but the salsa proved to be salty. I then moved to the Queso a la Parilla which is stated as being a House Specialty @ 6.59. Described as white cheese with sauteed (sic) veggies with the option of adding different meats at extra cost, I opted w/o meat. What they did not explain is that it is made with Monteray cheese and basically when it came out in its little skillet it was melted string cheese, could not even use it as a queso dip. After three unsuccessful tries of dipping with the chips (these soliders went down bravely) I opted the the fork and knife but by that time I decided it was not worth all the work. For the main meal I went to the Traditional Platos section and ordered the Carne Chili Colorado 8.99. It came out very hot and steamy. It comes with beans and rice which both were the regular every-day texmex taste and blend (not so tasty) the pork was okay..some pieces were overcooked, the sauce was alright, but the highlight of this plate was the pico de gallo. I have never tasted a better pico in all my years here in Austin! I even bought a pint to go home because I wanted to share this find with my family. If you do go here skip the salsa and queso with chips and ask for the pico! Fresh tortillas were good. The service was wonderful and attentive, in fact I may have over-tipped but I love good service. They did take the queso off my bill which was nice of them even though I offered to pay for it (I did order it, it was made the way they make it, I just did not like it). Overall with lessons learned I would like to go back again and try a different entre but will definately get that pico again!
