Came back to give the place another chance. Tried the poboy half and half. Very good sandwich. Changes my vote. Still not a fan of their gumbo but it’s a consistency thing for me. I’ll be back.23 Mar, 2015Just being quick. Service started good ended with wait staff talking and no refills. And had to go GET my check. Food was ok. Good portion for the money. Had the seafood gumbo and it was average. Nothing special. So I came I ate and service stinks and food is average. There ya go…. Moving on won’t be back.

My husband and I frequent Little Daddy’s Gumbo Bar. We love the gumbo. It is delicious and I was married to a Cajun so I do know gumbo. It’s just a matter of your preference. Some people like a thin roux while others like a thicker roux. Some like their roux dark while others like theirs lighter. To each his own, we love it. I make gumbo but if I’m in the mood for gumbo and don’t feel like preparing it, we go to Little Daddy’s Gumbo Bar. Same as going to a steak house. Who hasn’t cooked a steak?

Gumbo was terrible and included an after taste. The chicken on a bun and home cut fries were excellent. My wife had the fried shrimp and oysters and they were very good. I have no desire to come back for the gumbo but their platters and sandwiches (Po Boy) either were good or looked good.

Mixed review. I don’t often get a craving for seafood, but today was the exception. I have been to the gumbo bar on a previous occasion so my expectation was high as my previous trip had gone well from the service to the food. Upon arrival I seated myself after speaking with a hostess and then surprisingly waited. While numerous wait staff milled about clearing tables and assisting other guests I was simply overlooked. After about 20 or so minutes and after other guests whom arrived after me were helped I was just about to leave my table and find my own assistance or leave when David on the staff finally picked up that I hadn’t been helped and arrived to take my simple order of water and chicken gumbo. He eventually passed me off to the waitress that likely should have been assisting from the start but by the time the food arrived I had been there for at least a half hour. I might have expected this in a large busy restaurant but this was not the case on a Sunday around 2:30.So now onto the good part of the review. As with my previous experience the food arrived and was excellent. Having traveled in Louisiana I have enjoyed gumbo there and what is delivered at the Cajun bar easily matches or exceeds your Cajun food expectations. I would recommend the Cajun bar to anyone going forward. However next time I am in I hope the service is a bit faster.

Great place, awesome food! A hidden gem in a strip shopping center.

Everything was great, except the gumbo!. I have trouble deciding whether to like the restaurant or not based on what I just saw tonight. Service was excellent, atmosphere was cozy, music was nice, table was clean. Fried okra, sweet potato fries, gumbo burger, sweet tea were all excellent. Sadly, I found the roux for the gumbo to be very dense almost like a gravy. I understand this may be a subjective dish but where I’m from (Alexandria, LA) we’ve never had a roux like this one. Normally our gumbo is a little more greenish/brownish and has a somewhat clear consistency. Gumbo bar roux was very dark and gravy like. I’m torn about liking or disliking because everything else was great. I know I’m not a real south of I-10 cajun, but I like to think I know a tasty gumbo when I see one.
