A Little Heavey. The few cupcakes I have had from here were very heavy, like I could throw them as a weapon. The flavor profiles are good they just aren’t the best cupcake in town.
I love this place, and I know for a fact that they use butter, not shortening! Yes the icing can sometimes be piled too high, but I always took half of it off and the entire treat was perfect.
Bleck. It wasn’t all bad. Manfriend and I went on a Tuesday. The Raider Red Velvet was surprising and delicious. Hummingbird cake was good, icing was tooth achingly sweet. Banana’s Foster cake tasted like it was made with very green bananas, under baked and dense. Mississippi Mud cake was okay, reminded me of a brownie, but as with all other icings besides the cream cheese – so sweet it’s sickening and more icing than there is actual cake. The Mississippi Mud icing in particular was disappointing because it was basically straight up sugar colored with cocoa powder rather than flavored with cocoa or chocolate. Not only is the product so-so, whoever the employee/cashier was basically accused me of being a spy when I asked what style of buttercream they used. She said she was nervous about giving out their recipe since other cupcake places sent in spies. I clarified that I was not asking for a recipe, but asking what kind of buttercream they used (American, Swiss, French, Italian). She looked confused, as if she didn’t realize there were other kinds of buttercream besides powdered sugar and Crisco – which I would consider a PRACTICE buttercream, not an edible one. I’m starting to wonder why we keep trying these kinds of places around town when the general theme of these places is overpriced cupcakes topped with vegetable shortening and powdered sugar. Why have an awesome business where you JUST sell cupcakes and not even be knowledgeable enough to make a professional product? If you want to charge that much for a cupcake, use butter, not shortening for your frostings.Overall, the products and experience was kind of off putting. And, I don’t get the whole vengeance/competition with other similar businesses – from where I stand, they are all sadly the same. But, the Raider Red Velvet was great, so maybe some of the other cupcakes available are good, too.
Fun cupcakes but overpriced!. Love the cupcake craze and unique flavors, but I can’t afford $2.50 cupcake on a regular basis. My favorite flavors like Raider Red Velvet aren’t drowning in icing, but the other flavors seem to be mostly icing and hardly any cake. Mississippi Mud is awesome, but again $2.50 for a little cupcake with no icing? Great for special occasions, but too expensive to become a sustainable purchase.
The cupcake itself was ok, not the best I’ve ever had. The icing was awful. Toomuch, too sweet, and no flavor. I think they should make different icings for differnet cakes, instead of just changing up the color. I would rather bake my own.
These are by far my favorite cupcakes anywhere. I travel often and have tried the big names I. The big cities and they just blow the competition away. They are moist, tasty, and the icing isn’t too sweet. The Salted Carmel is my favorite if I was pressed to pick one. They all rock and are made fresh every morning.
Yummy. I love this place and that they have different options daily. The staff is always so nice and talkative. I have heard of other cupcake places but I will stick with this one. Best cupcakes in Lubbock!
