Waste of money. We always appreciate something with panache in Lubbock; however, Rain is completely overpriced for what it is. We ordered 2 pastas entrees, one salad and 3 drinks each (she had wine but it wasn’t anything special) and got out for $175. Yes, $175. For pasta. The food was okay but when we have had MUCH better in NYC and Dallas for 1/2 the price, something is wrong. We aren’t food snobs and think 50 Yard Line and Las Brisas set the standard for Lubbock, so when we can go get a top of the line 8 or 10 ounce filet and a bottle of wine and get out for less than a couple of pasta plates, well, that says it all. The venue is nice enough and ambiance was okay but at the end of the day, it was too exorbitant for what it was.
Birthday Dinner. I wanted an upscale experience for my wife’s birthday. I invited my daughter and son-in-law to eat and celebrate with us. My wife and I thought lasagna would be a safe choice. Daughter and SIL ordered other entrees. Each of us had the least expensive cabernet, which came in the smallest portion of a drink I’ve ever had. The lasagna pasta was chewy and the cheese sauce was the most obnoxious thing I’ve ever put in my mouth. Each of us ate less than half, took it home in a box, and fed it to some stray cats. Daughter and SIL were too kind to complain, but they left more than half their entrees on the plate and passed on taking any home. Here’s the kicker. Dinner tab and four thimble sized wines added up to $185.00 including tip. I must admit I had been told by more than one person that Rain Uptown is very overrated. I can guarantee you it is overpriced. If this is truly a world class chef from Italy, I feel sorry for the folks who have to eat this tripe in the mother country. I almost forgot, our waitress kept complaining about having too many tables and was overly apologetic about how long it took to get the food and the wine.
Visited Tonight. Dark atmosphere inside…food was good but the cheese ravioli tasted like I had ordered cheese nachos.Ravioli is great but drowning in cheese sauce.It wasn’t very busy this night but the waiter hardly came to our table to check in on us.
What?. I did not have a good experience there….. I waited at the bar for 15 minutes and could not even get the bartenders attention….. that coupled with very amateur music made the 100$ i spent on a meal seem like a waste…:(
Food is incredibly overpriced and there is a strong chemical smell throughout the entire restaurant from the nail salon next door. I paid $20 for a plate of pasta that tasted like nail polish.
Steak!. The Bone in Ribeye was very good!! One of the best steaks I have had in a very long time! My Wife had the lamb chops and is still talking about how good they were!!
Waitress was very nice. However, she served me the wrong drink (twice), forgot to turn in our appetizer, and screwed up the order on our entrees (initially). The veal was perfectly prepared, the pasta was bland. For $$$$, I expect more. Will not be back.
