Danger Will Robinson….pot holes in parking lot. If you are looking for an old time cafe/restaurant like the ones that were around in 60’s and 70’s this is it. Walk in and no one says anything to you. They just assume you know to go sit yourself. Ok. You don’t have to dress up for this place, there is no pretension. You can wear a hat. You can have your shirt tail out. You can wear tennis shoes and they can be dirty. Boots? Jeans? Sure. Don’t expect anyone to offer you a wine list. This is just your basic good old fashioned mom and pop restaurant. And yes beware there are some potholes in the parking lot. There are also some of those concrete things you bump up against that have been knocked loose and are randomly strewn on the sidewalk by Slide Road. Please fix this because things like this bug the crap out of me. The inside is clean for the most part. Seems organized. But it is boring. There are a few old football type pics on the walls but basically the inside is a snorefest. I don’t remember hearing any music either. Maybe there was but it must have been boring because I don’t remember it. The waitstaff is older and efficient. The customers were mostly older and working class types. Good honest gun toting Republicans would be my guess. They offer menu of breakfast and burgers and hamburger steaks and chicken fried steaks…that kind of stuff. I wasn’t real hungry and just went with the small cheeseburger with fries. Food arrived fairly quickly. It was hot. The burger was good. I wouldn’t say it is top ten burger in Hub City but it was a solid burger. The fries were hot and good but not like the best fries ever. They would need to be crispier. But they weren’t bad. I ate maybe 60% of them. If they were awesome I would have eaten 100% and wanted more. Sorry, but that didn’t happen. I would say to go ahead and eat at this place any time you want to and you will not leave with disappointment in your body. You will not leave with exploding goodness from the depths of your stomach either however. It is what it is.This is an official Frekview. Thanks and God Bless

Top Drawer. As soon as we entered the door I knew we were going to be treated to a very good meal and indeed we were. The special for lunch was CFS with mashed potatoes and green beans which became my choice. As others have said the food was spot on.The meal arrived quickly never mind that there was only a few tables that were not full and turnover was constant. The Red Zone Cafe runs like a well oiled machine and they keep the service coming. The next time I find myself in Lubbock I will be back at the Red Zone Cafe again. Charm that only comes from old fashion service and top draw food combine to be a true winner in this all too bland era of chains unwilling to display any individuality for any reason.
Awesome food fast. Great staff. Best catfish this side of Georgia.
Great local place! Delicious, hardy, great deal and fast service.
Local diners, especially established ones, have a charm that has to be experienced to be understood. This place does not disappoint: cheap comfort food, friendly staff, chatty gossipy locals with no voice volume control, politics and social events discussed are all part of it.I had the CFS breakfast: perfect meat, Breading, gravy, eggs, hashbrowns and toast. $6.99. I’ll be back.
