A dive bar with a dress code?. My party was asked to leave because one of the guys was wearing a tank top. When I asked the waiter if I (a female) could wear a tank top and give the guy my jacket, he said no. Meanwhile, at least three other females in the bar were wearing sleeveless shirts, including our nine-month pregnant waitress. If there is a dress code, enforce it for everyone.
Ever seen Cheers?. That’s Skooner’s in a nutshell. They have very good bar food, reasonably priced drinks, a recently repaired pool room in the back, and they support local music when it’s good. This place has been a cultural center in Lubbock since I’ve lived in this town. If cigarette smoke offends you, come during the day. Skooner’s makes a seamless transition from restaurant to bar when the sun sets. If a fryer and a cigarette offends you, this might not be your place, but I just call that America.
