The Shack has, hands down, in my humble opinion, the best barbecue in the world! I was born and raised in Fort Worth, so as a kid I walked on the sawdust floor at Angelos BBQ, ate ribs at the Big Apple, first went to the Railhead on Vickery when it was a barn, and went with my parents to their favorite spot, Cousins BBQ, otherwise know as the Payne Dynasty. All of those were good. Very good in fact. Mouthwatering good. But The Shack is at a whole other planetary level. Falling off the bone pork ribs, moist flavorful fall apart brisket, Extreme BBQ sauce that is HOT, loaded potato salad, spicy beans, great cole slaw, and a giant beef rib on Sundays only that I have only heard stories about, but I want it, really bad. Its on my Bucket List! All of that and fast and friendly service. The only downside to all of this heavenly BBQ bliss is that The Shack often sells out, so you had best go early if you want to have a selection other than sausage. They make more now that they have their new smoker barn in place, and the new air conditioning makes it cooler in the dining room, but the warmth never kept anyone away, it just sold more beer. They have the Bootleggers Lounge too, with live music from time to time. Lubbocks lucky to have Kelly and Kyle making BBQ to remember!
If you get a brisket sandwich, just know that it’s huge! The potato salad and Mac and cheese are awesome. Apple pie cheesecake and banana pudding are delicious. Great place.
The Shack has better BBQ, BBQ sauce, and music, and is a better BBQ restaurant, in Lubbock, than Dickey’s, Rudy’s, Rib Crib, or Baby Bigham’s. I’m not originally from Texas, but I know what tastes good. If you’re close to Lubbock and haven’t been to The Shack, go there and eat.
Worth the very short drive up North Frankford. Located on the west side of Frankford, just look for the big white sign with BBQ on it. It really looks like a shack but once inside it is large and roomy. Ribs are fall of the bone. Outstanding. Lean brisket is the best there is and the Jalapeno Sausage…love it. Also the Mac and Cheese is made in house as well as all the other sides not out of a plastic tub. Also meals are served with a slice of sour dough bread not a slice of white bread. Rarely give this high of a rating, but you need to go. Great husband and wife team owners and staff is friendly and helpful. Also very reasonably priced!
I thought it was good, but I had heard great things so I was a little disappointed. The meat was good, but the bun was subpar. (I had a brisket sandwich).
Pork Ribs and Moist Brisket. Meat tasted boiled & bland. Sides were good. Disappointing overall…
