Nostalgia. Neely’s has so much more than an excellent pulled pork sandwich (and believe me – mmmm). Neely’s was the hangout for decades of Baby-Boomers and continues to be an East Texas beacon. Neely’s has always been a friendly family place – Mr. Neely in the early years, then his daughters, Geraldine and Francine, now a trusted friend. I have to have my brown pig when I go to Marshall. Wonder if they ship?

I live 300 miles away and whenever I visit Marshall, I make sure I visit Neely’s. It has been a family tradition for as long as I can remember. After about a 5 year absence I made it back. It was good to see that nothing had changed, I think the same pictures were still crooked the same way. I ordered 2 Brown Pigs, fries and tea, YUM!! As of 1-17-12, Neely’s was open with a steady flow of traffic. Their posted hours are: T,W,Th 10-3 F,Sa 10-7 Su-M closed. Brown Pigs are $2.85 and worth every penny. This place doesn’t have the most appealing atmosphere but I think that’s what gives it it’s charm. Neely’s Brown Pig just celebrated it’s 85th anniversary, they must be doing something right.

My grandfather loved this place and I do too! It’s wonderfully simple, and they have been here forever! I hope they never give up. This is the soul of east Texas. Thank you guys!

Amazing hometown cuisine. I love this place. As a resident of Marshall since I was born, I missed out on their great food for the first 18 years of my life. Their brown pig and blazing pig are awesome. This is the oldest restaurant in Marshall, having been open for almost 85 years. Anytime I have company in from out of town, we go by.

Rich With Tradition. Having said that, not the best place we have eaten. The brown pigs and little pig ham or I am not sure of the name were good but not memorable. We even tried an apparent old tradition of opening a bag of fritos and squirting the sauce from there on it and eating it and it was good but not great. Hamburgers and frito pie and dessert pies are good but do not rank over others in area. Overall, a good place to eat but we probably wont be back.Well, it’s 2/5/14 and we tried it again with a friend. We liked it better this time which is why we are trying all places at least one more time. The service was friendly and even warmed up our pecan pie for dessert. The little pig ham with bacon and the brown pigs were good= the pig ham made better with cheese and bacon. Fries were satisfactory. They do have Diet Dr Pepper. The interior was as always with classic pictures and benches and tables with a gas heater as well today. Overall okay but we are not in a rush to come back.JG score of 4.5 (+1for food, +1 for interior, +1 for price, +1 for diet dr pepper, +0.5 for service and 0 for we probably won’t return for a while)
