Super good, but super pricey. The food is really ridiculously good, but the prices are ridiculously absurd. The place is kinda empty, but if they just lowered the prices then maybe more people would go (cheapest item is an appetizer that’s about $10).
Just an FYI – They are closed temporarily for construction.
Expensive. Went for dinner last weekend. Overall, the food was pretty mediocre. I have eaten korean food across the country, from NY to LA, and their food wasn’t terrible, but not great either. Was surprised at how expensive our meals were for what we ordered. Not sure if it’s because there are so few korean restaurants in the area. Regardless, probably won’t be going back.
Increase In Prices. This place has recently raised its prices on at least 3/4 of the items on the menu. Several dishes have only been raised by $1.00. At least 4 items have made a dramatic increase of $4.00.These include:Japchae (mixed veggie & noodle – appetizer)Galbitang (short rib soup)seolleongtang (beef bone soup)jogi-gui (grilled croaker)godunguh-gui (grilled mackerel)jan guh-gui (grilled seasoned unagi)At least 4 items have been removed from the menu entirely:ozinguh-tangsuyuk sampler (fried seafood and sweet & sour sauce appetizer – appetizer)hoedepbap (mixed raw fish over rice)jajangmyeon (noodles with stir-fried black bean paste)hirekatsu (Japanese style fried pork tenderloin cutlet with steamed rice)TABLE TOP GRILL BBQ (minimum 2 orders, includes rice and side dishes):$14-$18TABLE TOP STEW (minimum 2 orders, includes rice and side dishes)$30-$40CLOSING TIME: 9:30 everyday
Korea Garden is Excellent. Hi, I’ve been to the Korea Garden several times and i must admit that it is a restaurant of excellent quality. I’ve tasted their bulgogi as it is and in the earthenware bowl and both of these meals are very good. The meat which i assume is some form of steak is always tender and seasoned just right and the side dishes always compliment the meal to perfection. Whenever traveling to McAllen i always make sure to designate enough time to enjoy one of their meals.
Something different… I’ve been to KG (as we call it amoungst my friends) various times since I found out it was open. Ive had the bulgokee, chap chae, mandu(fried dumpling appetizer, must try), my new favorite the beef intestine soup, and a few others. Its always been good. Also, I dont think Ive ever had the same set of side dishes., usually 5 per seating. The staff is friendly and helpful especially when explaining the side dishes and entrees. Dont think the waitress/er is being mean or forgetful when they dont come back after serving you. From what I have learned it is Korean etiquette to let guests enjoy thier meal, with minimal interuption. Just wave one of them down. Lunch specials are available(ala bento box), large group specials, and from what i last read they cater aswell. Sometimes a fresh piece of fruit is served for dessert, not that you’ll have much room for it of course. Its always been a pleasure to drop by, i live in San Benito, and its never a hassle to travel the way just for a good and out of the rio grande vally norm meal. There are always Korean Dramas or variety shows on the flat screen, and a karaoke machine, which i dare not ask about, but would be fun to watch in action I imagine.
