Our dining experience has always been good at Salt. But today it was not quite as good. Dinner was salty and the bathrooms were dirty. For $130 I expected better.
Disapointed. I had heard great reviews about this place so I went to try it myself with a couple of friends. I consider myself a well traveled, versed person in the culinary department so this message is just for those who really appreciate good food. I tried the beef tips, linguini, scallops and fried chicken, let me just say for $30+ a plate I would of preferred gone to Logans or Luby’s. I believe all your paying for is the ambiance and very chick customers. The food was more than bland I guess that is why they include salt on your table so you can flavor it yourself. The beef tips were over burnt with tasteless meat, the linguine was a strange confection of bad flavors put together and then who adds FRIED CHICKEN to a gourmet menu? I still don’t get how the sister restaurant House Wine is very good but yet Salt does not even come close. My suggestion change all your entree menu PLEASE! If you don’t I feel your restaurant will not stand the test of time. Overpriced for a bad version of comfort food.
Outstanding Restaurant. McAllen needed a great restaurant and Salt is it. Although the menu is limited, the experience was wonderful. We enjoyed the Salt Board, the Monkfish, and the baked Alaskan pie. Wine was good and the atmosphere was wonderful. I bit pricey but will go back.
Great Food Great Atmosphere Great Staff. My Husband and I ate there last night. It was our first time so we asked A LOT of questions. Lori was a great help she made amazing suggestions. I got the pork shank and my husband got the pork chops. AMAZING. it was an overall experience, right down to my drink. I had the prickly pear and I want more! to the other reviewer complaining about not getting full on scallops…???? seriously have you ever ordered scallops before? They are a delicacy and when prepared correctly they are a foodies dream. If you were hungry you should have eaten the fried chicken. This is a very well conceived restaruant. Shame on you for writing such a poor review after only one visit.
Three scallops and mashed potatoes for $40.00. They advertise $30 and under. I guess if you plan on only eating a $16 appetizer and water. Noisy. Terrible acoustics. Can’t hear people at own table. Great tastes but you’ll need to stop and eat something else before going there.
