Speed lunch ! Stop as this was the first place I saw and had to get back to work. Got the Thursday 4.99 special. I have no idea what it was. Four small flour soft taco shells. Meat galore, I also got sour cream, guacamole, grilled onions, pico de gallo, salsa and a bean veggie soup. $4.99! More food than I could ever imagine. It was extremely good and well worth the find!
Bad Service at Taqueria La Mexicana on N. 23rd in McAllen. I have to say that my mother and myself enjoy eating at Taqueria La Mexicana in San Juan and their service has always been excellent. In fact, we are regular customers there and even the workers there know us. As of yet, we haven’t had any complaints with the branch in San Juan. It is a place where we enjoy dining and the atmosphere there has always been very positive. However, the McAllen Branch on N. 23rd needs to get its act together or else their business will eventually begin to falter. In the evening of Saturday, March 1st, my mother, my young nephew and myself were in the McAllen area and decided to dine there at the N. 23rd branch. We had not been there in such a long time and to our dismay, we had neither experienced such bad service. I guess that maybe the Manager may had already gone home because the workers provided us such pitiful service. To begin, we waited an extremely long time in receiving our order. We noticed other customers who had arrived long after us had gotten serviced quicker and were already eating while we were still waiting for our order. We asked the waiter, an odd, thin, and short man, and he said our plates would arrive shortly. Quickly after that, he brought our plates and they did not quite meet our expectations. For one, the cooked onions were still too raw and my mother brought it to his attention. The waiter rudely told us that they were like that because we had rushed them. Then, my mother asked the waiter if he could bring us more onions, but cooked better, as it is normally served. A short while later, the waiter brought us a plate full of burnt onions. The sight of those onions were horrific. We complained again with the waiter and he said that the cook had served the onions that were cooking in the coals and that he had served them to us like that. That evening, we had to eat our tacos without the cooked onions, which normally gives it a special taste. My mother was very upset. Of course, we did not leave a tip, because for that matter, the waiter never came back to ask us how we were doing or ever came back to offer us refills on our soft drinks.I hope the owner and the manager on N. 23rd in McAllen reads this because this is what I have to say: If you keep on treating your customers like you treated us that evening, you will not be in business very long. We know how good your tacos are because we eat at the San Juan branch all the time and I’d hate to see your business go. This experience really disappointed me and I am glad, for your sake, that I was not a Mystery Shopper dining in your restaurant that evening. If I had been a Mystery Shopper, your restaurant’s performance would have failed miserably.Take this advice from someone who actually does Mystery Shopping. I have done Mystery Shopping for Texas Roadhouse, Denny’s, and BJ’s and we’re not supposed to reveal to anyone who works there that we are Mystery Shoppers.By all means, it is not my intention to hurt your business with this review, but I felt it needed to be mentioned as feedback for you employers and employees of Taqueria La Mexicana to know. I do want to say to customers and any future prospects of Taqueria La Mexicana that the tacos there are excellent and that, normally, service is good. I have been at the McAllen N. 23rd branch before and their service has always been great! I just don’t know what happened that evening of March 1, 2014.Thank you for listening.
