The service was great! Our food was served fast and fresh. I got the gyro and although I prefer it wrapped versus cut in a triangle, I will definitely get it again. I didn’t care for the macaroni salad, it had a strong mustard taste. Next time I’ll try the potato salad.
B-O faux sho. Finally a place that saves people from the abysmal landscape that is dining in the RGV. I worked here years ago during college, and although my history my come off as bias I think the Blue Onion is hands down the best restaurant in the valley. It all starts with the ingredients. The cooks get there at 8am everyday and make the majority of the ingredients from scratch. As can be imagine this is a long process but this kind of commitment to excellence is what makes the food great. I have literally had every item on the menu multiple times, and none disappoint. However, if your looking for the usual Mexican/chain restaurant fair that you find in the valley look elsewhere. The greater McAllen area is the fattest metro area in the USA. That is quite an accomplishment. To combat this the Blue Onion offers many healthy options for the health conscious eater. The salads are diverse, huge, and tasty. The pizza options are numerous and are also available in calzones. The wraps are simply to die for with consisting of anything from tender fajitas to sauted shrimp. There are many more options that I dont cover, but everything here is good. The ambience in relaxed with the servers in causal clothing. The dcor consists of several pieces of art from local artist. The satellite radio belts out contemporary jazz. That would be my only compliant as jazz any kind of jazzis the bane of my existence. The managers on duty frequently make the rounds and interact with customers. As for some of the complaints about the service it seems as if those people do not know the nuances about how a restaurant runs. The service and food are as consistent as the sun rising in the east and setting in the west. I have not lived in the valley for many years. Whenever I do come down for a few days I always make it a point to dine here. It is truly a diamond in the rough, and I will continue to frequent it whenever Im in town.
The gyro & the cucumber/ potato salad sides are all I’ve had in this fine establishment. The customer service is friendly. I would def. go again.
,!,. I heard many good things but when my boyfriend and I went we had no similar experience, the calzone was bland.
I love blue onion!. Ive been coming here since my high school days. i always get something different and im always satisfied. staff makes you feel at home. its fabulous!
Its a good diet food place to eat, since you basically leave half the crap thats on the plate there, careful on what u order cause its a crap of a menu too
Excellent veggie sandwich. The cold black beans, as a side, were surprisingly very good. I’ll be back.
