Great Lunch!. Three of us went there for lunch today. We entered and found that we were they only ones there but still was made welcome by the wait staff. We order two appetizers….hummus and the Greek Salad. Both were delicious. For our entrees we ordered three of the daily specials, all of which were delicious. Other patrons came in after we waited for our entrees, one being a table of seven who all ordered shawarma plate. A plate that we all decided to order when we order. We definitely recommend this restaurant.
First time at this amazing gem tried the Za’atar Lamb Shank it was terrific. My partners ordered a sampler called Zaytoon Platter and the said it was wonderful.I just loved everything. Finished with a Turkish cofee and baklava just as amazing as everything else.Large portions, lots of pita bread and for the prices… OMG!! Thumbs up!
Zaytoon in Mcallen, Texas. Nice ambiance. Dimmed lighting. Fancy chandelier and drapes. Clean and good service from waiters. Tried the Zaytoon Platter which was like a sampler of various Middle Eastern foods. Was pretty good but didn’t come with the only thing I was familiar with going in… hummus. Afterward tried the baklava with a Turkish coffee. Very very good. Big fan of Turkish coffee now. Would recommend this place to anyone wanting to try something different.
About time!!!! Good Shawarma!. Someone finally got GOOD Middle Eastern food in McAllen!TG! Mezze(appetizers) are diverse and all well prepared.Excellent stuffed dolmas( grape leaf and cabbage), Fatoosh salad( like lemony garlic lettuce with crunchy tortillas( pita) Lamb falls apart off the bone and melts in your mouth.Shawarma( let me say that again) SHAWARMA!!!!!!An oasis in the valley! Perfectly seasoned and cooked on a proper spit so the juices drip down on it as it slowly turns on the fire.Service is perfect. They were busy on a Friday night in Lent( great vegeterian plates) but the entree was served just after the apps. and the temperature and taste were perfect.Decor is understated but elegant. Silky panels of material form a tent like ceiling.Colors are warm and earthy. Some wines, but more later. Clean, too!Authentic ME pop music. ( A little too loud, maybe?)Prices are from $2 to $12 for appetizers, and entrees are very reasonable, too.Lunch is packed.Definitely coming back.
