Don’t get the all you can eat shrimp and stuff. It’s a totally different quality than ordering off the menu.
Nothing pretentious about this place, great food, great service, very relaxed atmosphere. Everything was fresh, with huge portions. We got the canned shrimp and fish, and I may recover from within a week. If you’re dying for fried fresh seafood, this is a stop you should make. It’s worth finding it.
Terrible! Bland and cold food. This place is where you can get cheap food but no taste at all!
I had the all you can eat fish lunch today -shrimp/catfish/crab balls. I prefer the crab cakes to their crab balls so in the future I would go with the grilled version which also comes with grilled veggies instead of fries which were pretty limp. The catfish wasn’t as good this time as last so in a future visit I’ll go with grilled shrimp and crab cakes and have them hold the catfish. The fried shrimp were good, but not good enough for the likely extra calories over grilled. By the way, grilled only means on a grilling surface like stainless -not over open fire/coals.Then again, maybe I’ll go with one of their combos so I can take leftovers home.I would say the food is good enough for an initial visit, but it may not be special enough for many returns or a long drive.13 Jan, 2013The other night I stopped by late for a bowl of gumbo. It was very disappointing -mostly broth with a few shrimp. It was spicy, but otherwise lacked flavor. What flavor there was, was mostly bad. As good as some of their food is, this was pretty much awful -and a bad value at that.I’ll still go back, but rely on the servers to suggest 3-4 items I’ll chose from.Like most any other restaurant some items are good and some aren’t.06 Jan, 2013I ate lunch there today -the all you can eat grilled shrimp/crab cake w/ grilled vegs. Everything was very good to excellent. I even tried a small piece of their fried catfish and liked it! I normally don’t like catfish. The coating, seasoning, and the way it was prepared/cooked were excellent. I couldn’t get past the first plate. It had a mountain of shrimp. Their cocktail sauce was really good. I will certainly be back and recommend it strongly. If you’re like me and prefer not to eat a mound of food at one sitting, you may want to select a non all you can eat menu item. That way you can take any leftovers home with you.
I hope the crabs are local. I’ve eaten here twice and liked it. Food was prepared very well. Had the bar-b-que crabs. If you want to be a stickler for accuracy — grilled crabs. They are delicious. But I doubt I order them again. The grilling seems to make the meat stick to the shell and is very tedious to coax each morsel from the place it grew up. Much easer to get the meat out of a boiled or steamed blue crab. Boudin Balls and the Onion Rings are cooked very well, as was the fried catfish (which is enough for two). Haven’t tried the oysters, but if they are not sliding the knife under them and cutting the little muscle holding it to it’s shell, then someone needs to shake up the shucker. But they aren’t the only place I’ve been lately that doesn’t do this. Everyone should at least try Sartin’s. Most will find it worthy. I don’t know if any of their menu items are local sourced However, I think they need to capitalize on their proximity to the Gulf of Mexico and seek, obtain and promote local seafood as much as possible. To many restaurants overlook local produce which hurts the local economy overall.I will add that I’ve eaten in the Port Arthur/Nederland area quite a bit as I have to travel there frequently. And all the restaurants in this area OVER SALT their food. Sartin’s is no exception. So if you aren’t from the area, you might want to ask them to tone down the salt.
I live in Arkansas my folks live in lumbertonm, it is my favorite great food
After hearing my husband rave about Sartin’s (original) BBQ crabs for years, I finally got a chance to try them!! They were great!! Thanks to our freind finding this new location! Actually, I LOVED the shrimp & crab bisque! Awesome! We will definately be making this 3 hour drive to have dinner with our freinds here more often! Lisa, our waitress was fantastic!!! Highly reccomend this Sartin’s!!
