This is an old well established restaurant and there is reason. There food is good. Not hing fancy just good. There were six in our party. We had the calamari and fried squash appetizers. For dinner we had Jumbo shrimp plates, a shrimp and oyster plate, the Captains plate and the Fisherman’s plate. Sides included a nice salad and the choice of fries or other side. Some had the au gratin potatoes and dirty rice. Everything was good and plentiful.
Service was good. Food was better than average. It doesn’t even compare to papadeaux. For what you pay here, you would be better off going to papadeaux.

My grandparents always ate here, my parents always eat here, and now I always eat here. I compare all gumbos to Schooner’s gumbo! The fried shrimp is always perfectly done as well.
The gumbo was great but very poor service. No cocktail sauce delivered with shrimp, no crab fork, appetizers delivered 10 min apart and main entree delivered while appetizer was still being eaten. The topper was, salad dressing was brought and taken back but we never got the salad. When we complained we received a $6 credit for 2 salads. A zero tip was a no brained.
The gumbo is good.
