Over priced, very touristy. I lived in Germany for a time, the sausages were good…but at 16$ for three sausages and some potato noodles (which were not seasoned with even salt or gravy covered, very very VERY plain) and some decent potato salad. The sweet mustard was authentic enough but the spicy mustard was just Dijon…not spicy at all. Also our beer was not cold. Waitress rushed us and tried to grab our menus after we asked to keep them several times and then rushed us to pay the check because she was getting off… Normally this would be fine (I understand, I work in food service myself) but it was not polite.
There may be some confusion with Friesenhaus as they had another location in town that has either closed or moved to South Sequin and I-35 which is where we dined after discovering it driving by. New Braunfels is very German so schnitzel became a must-try for us. And Friesenhaus didnt disappoint. The Lumberjack pork schnitzel comes topped with fried onions and mushrooms plus two sides. Mine were sauerkraut and potato salad. Lisas were cucumber salad and German potatoes. The chicken schnitzel is also available. The portions were a good size, particularly the sides. The schnitzel was covered with a crisp breading which while reasonably tasty benefitted from the addition of the toppings and the sauerkraut. Theres also a version of the dish that comes with a mushroom gravy, which is also available separately. I might try that next time. The sauerkraut interestingly contained bits of pineapple and the potato salad similarly contained bits of apple. Interesting additions that I liked. For desert we had the apple strudel with ice cream. Delicious but with more raisins than I would have liked (which would have been none). The service was excellent. Our server seemed as though she was sincerely interested in the enjoyment of our selections which was nice. Prices were a little high with each entry coming in at $16.99. The small scoop of ice cream add-on was $2.50. Not show stoppers but worth noting. We recommend Friesenhaus for good authentic German cuisine when in the New Braunfels area.
Like a tired old lady. This once great German restaurant is now tired and old. Like an old lady after a hard night out, still has her Saturday night dress on with too much rouge. I remember this place from many years ago when it was so good. It is now dingy, cluttered even bordering on trashy. The food is only so-so, or worse. Please, restore this once fine German restaurant to its former glory.
Its ok. Our plate was good but it was the most expensive & the portion of meat was a tiny 1oz- 112oz serving NOT worth the $20. I also understand Germans love their pork but there was hardly anything but the most expensive plates that were not pork. So if u don’t eat pork not recommended. For being #1 rated German restraunt in New Braunfels I was not impressed. The server did not have any suggestions & was not very attentive & the desserts looked like they would have been great several days ago.
Food was great and the service wS amazing!
Fun and good food!. Wewnt there on a Friday night. The restaurant was busy but service was good. Had the wurst it was very good. Place was lively with music and warm atmosphere. Lot’s of German beers to choose from and the wait staff was very helpful in explaing the differences in the beers. Fun place, good food!
Great meal!. My husband and I both greatly enjoyed our dinners. He had the curry wurst and I ordered the jagerschnitzle (tender pork with a light crisp breading and a flavorful brown gravy with mushrooms and onions). Our waitress offered us a choice of two sides, even tho the menu listed specific accompaniments. We tried the German fries (red potatoes boiled lightly, then grilled, and seasoned with bacon and onions; spaetzle, and the red cabbage. Our meal came very quickly, was delicious, and each entree was under $20, The waitress was attentive and refilled my iced tea made times without my having to request it. Es wahr ganz gutt! We look forward to coming back!
