Have been to this restaurant a bunch of times over the years when visiting family in Texas. I always love coming here when the weather is not too hot out and eating alongside the Guadalupe River.You can get a decent steak dinner here with sides and a Shiner Bock beer for a reasonable price. Everything here is pretty solid. Just a nice casual atmosphere with wonderful views especially when seated on the side of the hill overlooking the river. The place itself is situated maze-like inside but has a cool look to it with fireplaces, beer garden to relax in while waiting for a table, and outdoor decks to eat on with a river view. I have eaten the Texas T-Bone (1 pound of meat!) and the 12 oz Ribeye and just love it! Comes with a garden dinner salad and one side (veggie / potato / beans/ slaw). Meat cooked just right. Always happily full when I leave here. There is nothing like walking around New Braunfels, having cold Shiners at Gruene Hall, and then setting in for a nice dinner here. It’s Gruene, it’s the Gristmill, it’s on the river. Local sausage appetizer with BBQ sauce was excellent. I had grilled chicken smothered with tomatillo sauce, and the hubs partook in the chopped sirloin smothered with some sort of peppery, cheesy goodness and that was amazing. Coleslaw was tasty and potato salad was delish. Great bloody marys too. Of course we’ll eat there when we’re next in Gruene, it’s what you do.
Been here a few times at different times of the year and never had a bad meal! Everything we have ordered is always delicious and service is always outstanding! Great atmosphere and experience, worth the drive from SA!
We are here on vacation from Red River NM. This place is great, great food, service atmosphere. Highly recommend!
Good stuff and great atmosphere. Salad was good, onion rings were tasty. Sit out by the river to get the full effect.
Would not return!. If you LOVE black pepper then the onion rings are for you! The hamburger patty is NOT fresh…definitely previously frozen! The restaurant itself is neat to see but it is extremely hot inside! If you want to enjoy the A/C then eat your meal in the bathroom (which desperately needed attention!!) Even if I am back in the area I would not choose this restaurant to spend that amount of money at!!
Would love to come back but will refuse to be seated outside! Ground is extremely unlevel and our food and drinks were constantly sliding away. It had also rained earlier so we (and our food) got dripped on with every breeze. Chicken fried steak was disappointing but the ribs and onion rings were delicious. Staff was friendly and has a nice atmosphere.
