Every time I come back to the US to visit I go to this restaurant, Great food, great view! Make sure to ask for a table on the last row so you can see the lake, wait will be longer but In the long run so worth It !!

My husband and I ate here for lunch. The chicken fried steak is deliciously spiced and super juicy. This place is definitely worth a trip. The building is beautiful. Although it’s huge, with all the niches it still has an intimate feel to it.

I went to Gristmill with my boyfriend and parents. It had been raining earlier in the day, so it was not crowded for a Friday night. The wait was only long enough for us to each order a drink at the bar. The ambiance was very cool and rustic. We enjoyed the outdoor seating. We started with an order of onion rings. Unfortunately they arrived cold. I took a bite and was immediately disgusted. We all didn’t really didn’t car for the flavor, so when the waiter graciously offered to replace them, we said to just send them back. He was very kind and came back to offer us a free dessert. The waiter was very professional, funny, and attentive. Two people in our party had aside salad. We all loved the creamy vinegar eye dressing. It was delicious! I ordered the bronze catfish. We all agreed that was the best meal of the night. It was flavored perfectly and a little bit crispy. Two others ordered the trout. It had good flavoring, but a bit spicy. Lastly the prime rib sandwich was ordered with nothing but the bread. It was very enjoyable. The meat was cooked perfectly and tasted great. The potato salad on the side was just ok. It needed a bit more flavor. We opted out of the free dessert because we were so full and content. Overall, we definitely recommend dining here. The staff was amazing!

On a Sunday evening excellent attention by the wait staff. Busy but not too crowded. The grilled Cajun catfish paired with the veggies was an excellent choice for healthy and tasty dinner. My partner had the chicken fried chicken and mashed potatoes which were also good. Small but nice wine list featuring many Texas grown wines. The onion rings are great. I’ve small order is enough for 2 people. Highly recommend the raspberry vinaigrette dressing for your salad. I look forward to returning. This is a very popular tourist site. It can be very crowded with long wait lines. Choose you day and time wisely.

Gristmill is conveniently located next door to Gruene Hall. It’s convenient since after downing a nice cold Lone Star the next stop should be chilling on the patio with a Strawberry Wine Cooler in hand. They have an assortment of typical Texas fare which could be found most places, however they don’t have the ambiance or those wine coolers. Start off with Onion Rings as big as your face and stay on the fried kick by chucking back a Chicken Fried Steak. Followed by another wine cooler. I would recommend venturing into the bar area, where you can see silly stuffed animals on the wall, talk to the help and order another Wine Cooler.. I think you get my drift. It’s a great place to while away the afternoon while walking around the city of Gruene. They are popular and touristy and sometimes have live music in the courtyard area. Not so bad to sit and listen and watch the plethora of children rack themselves on the various trees they are trying to climb. Life is good here, take a load off and relax.

I had the fresh trout with Gruene Beans and coleslaw. My wife had the half rack of ribs with Gruene Beans and baked potato salad. Both were outstandingly good! And our waitress was the best we’ve had at the Grist Mill! We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch! This was a great treat for both of us. The trout was cooked perfectly an seasoned perfectly. And tasted like it was caught today (probably not, but it did taste that fresh!) And my wife’s half rack of ribs was falling off the bone tender. Excellent sauce and she said it was delicious! She wasn’t too crazy about the baked potato salad, but once we added some salt, the flavors popped! Gruene beans were good. Overall, the meal and service definitely deserves 5 stars.
