VERY good brisket sandwiches. The sides are all good and the peach cobbler is YUM!! Loaded baked potatoes are good, too. This is a great place to bring the family. There’s plenty of room, rarely a wait, and some of the nicest, most helpful employees you’ll ever meet!
Brisket Taco Salad Was Great. 2 weeks ago I had the Brisket taco salad which was great. The smokehouse salad Friday night was okay. The entertainer on 9/19/14 was annoying as heck. As we were leaving the remaining tables were complaining too. I’d really like to see this place make it. I think their food is good. The patio is great. There needs to be some waitstaff. My friends and I grabbed a table in the back to eat and then visit. We had to sit and visit looking over our dirty dishes. 🙁 Yuck. It would have been nice to have a waitress ask us if we would have liked another drink. Something for the Back Forty to consider if they want to stay in business.
How NOT To Do BBQ. Dry, fatty brisket… dry, tough, undercooked ribs… limp, flavorless sausage… strange tasting, undercooked beans… prefab, unpalatable sides… bad service… loud, obnoxious bands detracting from the entire experience…Want to know how real, good Texas BBQ is supposed to taste? One word: ANGELO’S.
Back Forty Smokehouse is amazing. The brisket is tender, juicy, and smokey. Best I’ve had in DFW. The chicken is smokey and tender, too. Ribs were meaty and moist.Sauce not needed but was tasty. Green beans were chock full of bacon and soft onions, not just dumped from a can. We had to wait maybe two minutes for more register paper (which we didn’t mind at all) and they offered an apology and free banana pudding for our wait. So so yummy. The beer is soooo cold in an ice cold schooner, that turns to beer slush (yumm!) The building is so cool, too. Definitely recommend this place.
What A Shame. Our group used to frequent this place when it was Cotton Belt BBQ – great live music and some of the best BBQ in The Metroplex. It was a shame to see Cotton Belt go out of business, because the next couple of incarnations (Big Barn, Red Barn, etc.) were jokes. The food was terrible, and the live music consisted of anyone with a backward baseball cap who owned a guitar, could make gang rap hand-signs, and would play for free.Enter Back Forty Smokehouse. Boy, the place really had potential – some of the best live acoustic music anywhere, fair-to-middlin’ BBQ, and attentive waitstaff. Unfortunately in the case of Back Forty, the food has consistently slid downhill since they opened, they’ve fired any waitstaff that actually approached customers in a friendly and attentive manner, and the live music? Well, it’s back to the backward gimme cap boys.Who’s next? Yellow Barn, Blue Barn? Shame.
Great BBQ and live music with the coldest beer.. Great atmosphere at Back Forty Smokehouse. I tried a three meat plate and while I usually am a huge rib fan, I sometimes judge on brisket as I believe most bbq joints just don’t try very hard. The brisket was an excellent moist cut with nice dark edges, just the way I like it.Good sides and really freakin’ cold beer in a giant mug. I would seriously consider stopping by if you are in the area especially on live music night out on their giant patio under the pecan trees.
Carol B.. Just had lunch at Back Forty Smokehouse. The restaurant was clean, the servers friendly and attentive and the food was wonderful. I’ve never been a fan of brisket, but this was moist, flavorful and tender. The barbecue sauce was not necessary, but was a nice complement. The ranch beans, coleslaw and Texas toast were also very good. I will definitely go back there for lunch and/or dinner many times. I strongly recommend this restaurant.
