Good Food Without a Lot of Fanfare. I was a little uncomfortable in Malli’s this morning. It was tough to get anyone to smile. It was like I was doing all of the facial work. A couple of times when I thought I made a little headway, it did not last very long. I eventually thought it best to just concentrate on the food. Since it was early morning, I decided on breakfast. They have both Mexican and American entrees. I got the Huevos a la Mexicana, which was basically scrambled eggs mixed with tomatoes and jalapenos. From my table I could see the cook preparing my meal in the kitchen, so I know everything is fresh contrary to some of the reviews here. They prepared the scrambled eggs low and slow, so they came out light and fluffy. They did not overdo the jalapenos either, so it had just enough bite. The beans were the creamy refried kind that you see so often. Don’t expect a side of rice though. I did not see it paired with any breakfast item, although it’s mandatory with the Mexican lunch entrees. I had four corn tortillas that were definitely homemade. Ooooooh, they were so good–even without butter.Service was certainly desultory, with my server checking on me ONCE just to see if everything was all right, which it was. I finished my meal at the same time as my ice tea glass became empty. You will have to decide if it should have been replenished before that occurred. I did not dwell on it. The meal was decent. As for the surroundings, the walls are painted a burnt orange with a number of pictures hung here and there filling empty spaces. A ladder leaned against the wall which looked out-of-place. The television was not playing, nor was there any sort of music. I didn’t find that a negative though. Sometimes it’s great not to have a distraction going on while you eat. There was entertainment in the form of a Mexican novela being watched in the kitchen though, or so it sounded from the dining room. Malli’s food is good. Service is ho-hum. If you are just interested in having a good meal without a lot of fanfare, Malli’s might be just up your alley.
Pleasantly Surprised. We like to try new spots and so decided to give Malli’s a try one evening. It’s in a strip that is half-empty and is a small, simple little place, so we didn’t get our hopes up. But, we were all very pleased with our food. It’s not got the glitz, or the party atmosphere, or 10 different kinds of burritos, that you’ll get at the big chains, but it was good, well prepared, economical mexican food. It felt like the kind of food I would get if I were sitting in these ladies kitchen for dinner. diningoutdfw.com
Mexican Connoisseur. I thought Id have to fly back to San Diego to get the GOOD STUFF. Not so much! While I look fwd to going back to SD to experience the most wonderful mexican food Ive ever had, Mali’s keeps me satisfied and not too eager. GREAT SALSA, ENCHILADAS, FAJITAS. I eat chili relleno every mex restaurant and NONE compare to Mali’s. So far I only tried the cheese anaheim chilie relleno but next time I will try the pablano beef chilli relleno. Take it from someone who is not full of crap…and knows good Mex good when he eats it…GO TO MALI’s!! Service aint the best when the floor helper isnt around but rest assure…smile or not, everyone there is super super nice. Enjoy your experience, I know you will:)
Not vegetarian friendly. Service wad awful, our server didn’t smile, which made ordering awkward. She didn’t listen when I told her no meat sauce on my enchiladas. She overcharged us, and when I corrected her she did not even apologize, or act as if it was by mistake. (tickets were hand written) Definitely never going here again.
Love this place. Home style Mexican food and the price is just right. Finally.
Authentic! The food here is excellent. By far the best in the area. I love their caldo de res, it is so hard to find in the area! We eat here about once a week. Highly recommend it
DELICIOUS!!!. We have been to this restaurant many many times! once you try their food you will not stop comming back! We go atleast once a week..sometimes twice! The ladies are always nice and the food is always great! It is definately NOT TEX-MEX! it is pretty authentic in the way that its like home cooked mexican food! The Flans and Tres Leches cake are delicious! I have never had Gorditas as good as this place makes them!! They are made when you order them and you will not regret trying them! 🙂
