This restaurant used to be our go to, but after tonight I cant imagine ever going back. We sat at our table at 6:30 and ordered right away. We always order the same easy meals at any Mexican restaurant (enchiladas, chimichanga, and a cheese quesadilla for my 1 year old). After we ordered, other couples came and sat at the surrounding tables. Those people ordered and received their food before we ever saw our waitress again. At this point our toddler is getting very agitated because we have been sitting with no food for 45 minutes, and people at other tables were offering us their food so we could feed our hungry kid. Finally, we see our waitress and my husband walked over to her to tell her that if our food wasnt out in the next few minutes we are going to leave. All of a sudden our food came out, but they brought the wrong entree for my son. We corrected the waitress who brought out the food and continued to wait for our correct order. About 15 minutes later we still did not have our correct food, and I told our waitress that we were going to be leaving. After all of this the manager came out and said he get our quesadilla and box our food up for us to go. I refused now that it was an hour we had been waiting for our dinner and an antsy toddler was not going to wait around any longer. Its so sad at the decline of what used to be my favorite place to grab a good dinner, and the lack of caring by the staff.
I have a lot of trouble reviewing Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants in the DFW area. I dont think any of them are really bad, but I dont think a lot of them are really great either. They are all pretty much the same. I try to steer away from the major chains like El Chico, El Fenix and Panchos though. I found Mi Pueblo to be delightfully different. The restaurant is quite big with plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating, and a lot of parking to match. The host was quick to welcome me, and set me up with a menu and desired seating. Drinks were next. My server got my drink order of iced tea and we were off to the races. She got my order and the next thing I knew, a humongous basket of chips was brought to the table along with their version of salsa. The chips were simple, lightly salted tortilla chips which I liked. I wished I liked the salsa more than I did. I am not fond of salsas that have a pasteurized tomato taste which this had. It was chilled and there was plenty (they brought me a carafe). I ate plenty too, so it couldnt have been too terrible. I ordered their beef chimichanga which came with refried beans and rice. I really liked this, and when I say this I mean the entire entre! When my server arrive with the plate in hand, I remarked how good everything looked. The plate was entirely full of Mexican delightfulness with a wonderful smell. The chimi was lightly fried and had a nice covering of sauce, but not drenched. The beans were whipped smooth and the rice was deliciously moist, yet the grains were not sticky and were separate. My server came to my table a couple of times to check up on me and to bring extra iced tea. She was pleasant throughout and was prompt bringing my ticket. I quite enjoyed Mi Pueblo. Other than the salsa, I recommend this restaurant highly. Mi Pueblo will be on my short list of Tex Mex restaurants that I will return to. P.S. They have a second location on Davis Blvd, a few miles from here, that I have not reviewed.
