Having eaten from here several times, my partner and I consider Hearthstone Bakery Cafe a pretty good breakfast and lunch spot. While the service is not always that stellar, it is passable. The food is quite good, which makes up for any other shortcomings. For breakfast, I like to get their bagel with sausage, egg, and cheese. Coffee is good and hot, too. It is a quick and easy breakfast for when you are on the go.If you want lunch, Alicia’s Club is a good choice. This is turkey, tomatoes, avocado spread, lettuce, and mozzarella cheese with honey-dijon mustard on a croissant. If you feel like a wrap, try the Caesar wrap, which is grilled chicken and Parmesan cheese with crunchy croutons, sun-dried tomatoes, romaine lettuce, and a creamy Caesar dressing. Now, if you want to be adventurous, I can highly recommend the The Tony Montino. This is an excellent hot panini with ham, pulled pork, yellow mustard, pickles, Swiss cheese and spread with a cilantro-lime mayonnaise. You simply have to try this one for yourself.
Ok but… Panera Bread gives you more for your money than this place. My 15 year old son asked for a Whataburger right after we left. The panino again was ok. not sure how they got voted the Best sandwich in S.A.
Stopped by for lunch today, tortilla soup and a cookie To Go. Joe, at the register was patronizing , not only to me, but to the customer behind me. When I went to pick up my order, it wasNOT to Go and they also had a salad with my order. I’m honest so I said the salad wasn’t my order and the guy looked at me, pissed, and said To Go? Joe at the order register had entered it as Dine In. But, they were confused as to whose salad I was almost stealing. Bottom line: tortilla soup mediocre, made with cheap chicken thighs. Don’t bother with this place, few customers, good concept, horrible execution.
WiFi DISabled. Hoping for a respite from Starbucks and the like but similar to the very few other local coffee houses in San Antonio, there were problems. Wasted so much time with wifi not working. Then, when it finally does, it’s prone to go out again?Too bad, the food here is decent and only a little over-priced for the area. Oh well, back to the drawing board.
Good soup and sandwich! Nice local feel’
Great for take out. The ‘half and half’ orders are not a very good deal, because the half sandwiches are so tiny you won’t feel full, and a bag of chips isn’t going to cure that. Get the full sandwich. The turkey and artichoke sandwich, their best seller, is by far my favorite. They’re great for office lunches also because they label their bags so we don’t have to spend as much time sorting things out.
Ha! The young man apparently expected me to carry my muffins out in my hands or arms. I had to ask him to put them in a bag!30 Jun, 2012Muffins mediocre & crumbly. And neighborhood unfriendly: they do not take checks. They are in an affluent part of town. And no sourdough bread! They are WHAT kind of bakery?
