There hasn’t been a review posted here since 2014. So here’s a quick update. The service is still slow and the queso is still cold. More on that later. There is so much hit and miss at Emma’s. The good thing is that the hits are home runs. The atmosphere here is so fun and eclectic. Lots of neon, larger than life colorful paintings, sugar skulls, pineapples… Just fun. I ordered the enchiladas Yucatan. This dish is conchinita pibil wrapped in corn tortillas with a sauce that is a little sweet & spicy. I think maybe it’s made with pumpkin or squash and habanero peppers. Served with fried plantain, beans and rice. I really should have got black beans to match the flavor, but I wanted to try the frijoles a la chara. The beans were good, but nothing out of the ordinary. As far as the rice, I’m not sure how they made rice with that color still taste like white rice. Now.. as far as the actual enchiladas? This is easily one of the top 10 things I’ve eaten. The bit of spice is offset by the plantains. The conchinita is perfect. Enough to make me give Emma’s a second try. Queso is average, but would be decent if it was warm. When I say this was cold, I’m not talking about that it got a little cold siting on the table. I mean this was served ice cold. I actually asked if it was supposed to be served that way, just in case I missed something. Server was apologetic and took it off the bill. Bottom line: I think if you knew what to order you could have a fantastic meal at Emma’s. I fell that I hit the jackpot with my enchiladas. I just wished the rest of the meal lived up to the entree.
