Not Anymore. Just like most Indian restaurants in DFW, over time the quality of the food and service begins to decline. I was hoping this place would be different, but no. The last couple of experiences were awful with cold sambhar, undercooked dosas, bland punjabi food, and terrible service. Avoid it as it feels like only a matter of time for this restaurant now.
Worst service, food can be much much better. Worst Indian restaurant I’e been to. Believe me being an Indian I know a lot of great Indian restaurants around Dallas that serve great food and have great service as well. The ambience at Chettinaad is depressing as well! I have been to this restaurant thrice and I’ve never been treated well. I am a vegetarian and the last time I was there I ordered Palak paneer and they served me Palak chicken! I mean it was ridiculous! My fellow vegetarians will understand what I mean. Thank goodness I tried to cut it with a spoon before I ate it! This was the limit! I’m not going back to this place again! And I suggest anyone who reads this to not go to this place! The food is not at all worth it!
Very very bad – and expensive. Two years ago, it was a fine restaurant with good South Indian food and good service. We just went there last weekend when we were in the Dallas area. It looks like it is under new management. It was our worst restaurantexperience in recent memory. The food was horrible, almost inedible. Most ofthe buffet food was cold, they were very bad about refilling the trays andthe taste had no resemblance to Chettinad food and was just horrible. Thepeople who run this place have no idea what Chettinad is, and I’m prettysure they don’t know what type of food is served in South India, or anywherein India for that matter. We were given glasses of warm water when we satdown, and after that, you were on your own. The restaurant is quite dreary looking and the tables are not wiped clean. The way the food is displayed in the buffet will make you lose your appetite and it tastes even worse. Fordesert, there was a hollowed out little mandarin orange stuffed with ananonymous flavor of kulfi that tasted like it had been sitting in thefreezer for the last 10 years. You will need a hammer and chisel to get itout. There was no sign anywhere stating the price of the buffet. Even afterthe sickening meal, I was prepared to pay $7.99, maybe even $8.99, fortrauma we had just endured. I was shocked to learn that the meal cost us12.99 each plus tax. It was just my wife, my daughter and myself. We couldhardly eat anything and the bill was over $40.00. This did not include anydrink. I had to go searching for the water. Never going back. I highlyadvise you to stay away. They have a webpage with some pretty pictures ofChettinad food, downloaded from Google images no doubt.
Disgusting place. This Place is pathetic, never step in. The food is way below average, and quality and taste not acceptable for the high price they charge. Ambiance is more like a shabby restaurant in a city where there are no other INDIAN restaurants so people have no choice, but this is Plano. The food seemed like prepared on the weekend and left overs served. We tried it for the first time and the total experience was horrible.Apart from no one else being in restaurant, the servers were blunt and rude. However the worst was the Manager/Owner, who behaved so badly that we had to get off in the middle of our meal and walk out of the place.Instead of listening to the customer, the manager was repeatedly saying its your fault. Manager had no idea what was printed on the menu card and when we referred to it and proved her wrong she got upset and started shouting at us. As I mentioned before, we left our dinner mid way and paid and walked out the place.Going through other reviews I noticed similar behavior from the owner to other customers. Whats surprising is that this place is still running. When I called the so called owner he did no apologize for the employees behavior but instead just hung up.If someone thinks there is any authenticity in the taste of the food here then they have not tasted real INDIAN food. In a place like Plano there are good restaurants at every nook and corner and even their worst Customer Service is better than the shabby folks here.
Food was OK – service was scarce. Food was OK. My wife and I sat at our table for 10 minutes before we could get anyone’s attention. Seems there was some sort of reunion going on with the manager/owner/staff… all speaking Indian… We seemed to be the last thing on their mind… Make sure you have lots of time if you’re going here – they are not in any hurry.
The food was great! Just know what you like to eat when you go bc they weren’t too helpful with the menu.;) We really like this place though!!
Nice lunch buffet. Friendly staff.
