Champagne: A region in France that also makes sparkling wine that is awesome. Sparkling wine: Wine with bubbles that is NOT from Champagne, France. If it WERE from Champagne, it would be called Champagne, not sparkling wine. (see above)Why is this important? It isn’t! Except that on Thursdays it’s ALL HALF PRICE at Cru wine bar, and that is at least 2x awesome. A great meal at CRU, which is what you have in store, begins quite nicely with that sparkling wine. You could finish there and be happy! But add a bit of food – perhaps the house salad with fried goat cheese, followed by the short ribs – and it’s an excellent evening. Cru is consistently good, the waitstaff attentive and the prices far less than two round trip tickets to Paris. Bon Apetit!
10/16/2015 Update: Well I went back because a friend booked a reservation here. I was not looking forward to it. I did move my rating from a 1.0 to a 2.0. We were not treated badly, but I would not say I had a great experience. I am still not a fan, but at least the pretentious attitude was gone.Pretentious – No Thank You. Cru is a bar trying to act like an upscale wine tasting room. The decor is heavy wood with wine barrels and walls of wine bottles. The service is sub-par and definitely not acceptable for a wine establishment. The servers had to be flagged down two and three times to just order. Once orders were placed it took more flagging to get them to bring out the wine. The selective attention to some guests and not others was completely pretentious. If you have the look and feel to belong, you get service. If you do not, forget it. None of the wine flights were explained. None of the pairings and flavors discussed. You just order like any bar. When the wine flights come they just set it down and walk off. There is no wine steward or sommelier to help detail the flavors.Do not visit Cru for a wine experience. It’s an upscale bar that sells wine for a pretty penny.
Food great. Service not …. Food great. Service not great for us. But service was awesome for the threesome that was sat after us. But they obviously knew the manager – she visited their table several times. Another table got up and left due to the service they received from the manager and waitress. Great ambiance!
